The International Organization for

Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is the leading international

intergovernmental organization dealing with migration.  IOM works to help ensure the orderly and

humane management of migration, to promote international cooperation on

migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration

problems and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including

refugees and internally displaced people. The IOM, acting as implementing

partner for the European Commission, is seeking to recruit a number of local

staff for support functions assigned to the European Union Election Observation

Mission (EU EOM) in Uganda.


Job

Summary:
The Press

Officer Assistant will provide technical and administrative support to the

Press Officer. This will involve assisting with press relations, establish and

maintain contact with the local and international media, a basic daily media

digest of political and election related items for the EU EOM. The incumbent

will also support in the preparation of a written report on the media for the

Final Report. Also, the incumbent will carry out any other tasks as may be

required the Press Officer.


Qualifications,

Skills and Experience: 


·        
The

ideal candidate for the IOM Press Officer Assistant employment opportunity should

preferably hold a Degree in Journalism, Communication, Public Relations or

other related field


·        
A

minimum of three years’ experience (preferably with International Organizations

or NGOs in the related field).


·        
Good

team player


·        
All candidates

should be non-partisan


·        
Excellent

command of both written and spoken English


·        
Fluency

in any other local language would be an asset.


·        
Excellent

analytical and drafting skills


·        
Computer

literacy i.e. familiar with MS Windows, Excel and Outlook.


·        
Willingness

and flexibility to work in an environment with an intensive workload


·        
Candidates

must be willing to work flexible hours and be able to perform under tight

deadlines.
