tobacco merchant, Alliance One International provides worldwide service to the

large cigarette manufacturers. Multinational manufacturers of consumer tobacco

products rely on independent merchants such as Alliance One to supply the

majority of their leaf. As a result Alliance One purchases tobacco in more than

45 countries and serves manufacturers of cigarettes and other consumer tobacco

products in over 90 countries.


Alliance One’s revenues are

primarily comprised of sales of processed tobacco and fees charged for related

services to manufacturers of consumer tobacco products around the world. They

do not manufacture cigarettes or other consumer tobacco products.


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure

    that all customer requirements are being met according to the standards

    set out in their respective manuals and the performance expected by the

    leaf team is maintained.

  • Ensure

    that moisture content and chemistries are drawn on a thorough sampling

    method and analyses are made on green leaf samples with periodic reports

    compiled and circulation to management.

  • Ensure

    Product cleanliness by carrying out Non Tobacco Related Material (NTRM)

    & infestation awareness, inspections, Hygiene, housekeeping and

    monitoring in all CPP’s.

  • Ensure

    regular calibration and maintenance of QA equipment are carried out in

    order to maintain reliability and accuracy of results.

  • Ensure

    that the procedures and accuracy of different types of tests are carried

    out to an international standard.

  • Ensure

    that all weighing equipment in the company are properly calibrated by

    performing frequent monitors.

  • Collect

    data, evaluate, interpret, prepare and present to management on quality

    performance, hygiene and ensure corrective actions where necessary.

  • Conduct

    independent audits on quality equipment, observed quality performance

    indices including methodologies & carry out corrective actions to

    ensure integrity & consistency.

  • Maintain

    quality Assurance inputs inventory to ensure operation with approved

    budgets and justify variances.

  • Ensure

    compliance and adherence with environment health and safety procedures

    & guidelines and ensure adherence by all QA staff.

  • Set

    up objectives & manage performance of own core team in a way that

    ensures efficiency & effectiveness.

  • Work

    in liaison with the Leaf Growing & Buying teams to ensure all aspects

    of quality and specifications are met.

  • Identifying

    ways and improve performance approaches in own area and team.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The

    ideal candidate should hold a Degree/Diploma in Food Science &

    Technology, Industrial Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related fields.

  • A

    minimum two years’ experience in an FMCG manufacturing environment.

  • Possess

    a high degree of personal integrity with the capacity to see around

    corners all the time and decisive to ensure that non confirming

    products/equipment do not progress to affect the supply chain in a way

    that negatively impacts the delivery of customer expectations.

  • Extensive

    & innate sampling and analytical techniques.

  • Computer

    literacy skills with good competence in excel spreadsheet.
