About the Fellowship Placement Organization:

Jhpiego is an international, non-profit health organization affiliated with The Johns Hopkins University. For 40 years and in over 155 countries, Jhpiego has worked to prevent the needless deaths of women and their families. Jhpiego works with health experts, governments and community leaders to provide high-quality health care for their people. Jhpiego develops strategies to help countries care for themselves by training competent health care workers, strengthening health systems and improving delivery of care.

Jhpiego designs innovative, effective and low-cost health care solutions to ensure a level of care for women and their families. These practical, evidence-based interventions are breaking down barriers to high-quality health care for the world's most vulnerable populations. Jhpiego has worked off and on in Uganda for nearly 30 years. In 2011, Jhpiego made a strategic decision based on country needs and interests from key stakeholders to establish a country office, with the goal of strengthening Jhpiego's support to Uganda's Ministry of Health. The fellows will actively participate in developing this exciting endeavor.

Fellowship Position Overview: The Knowledge Management, Communication and External Relations fellows will work closely with the Country Director and individual program managers to ensure that the Jhpiego-Uganda program is capturing and communicating program information effectively, using as many means as possible, to a wide range of external audiences in Uganda. The fellows will work with the Country Director to ensure regular and effective interpersonal engagements with key partners and stakeholders; and active external relations efforts that target many different groups, including partners at the community/district levels, decision makers in Kampala, and interested international audiences. Finally, these fellows will work with the Country Director to devise systems by which the external policy and programmatic environment is being monitored, and findings from this "environmental scanning" process are being incorporated into program planning and implementation. As core members of a small team, these fellows will be fully engaged in many aspects of program activity, and will have the opportunity to contribute their ideas on how to improve programs to better respond to the needs and interests of the external environment.

Responsibilities: *
Strategy Development:*

Read and become familiar with Jhpiego Communications ManualWork with the Country Director and individual program managers to develop an overall program external relations strategy:Help define means for regularly compiling and presenting program information to key in-country stakeholders using a variety of written, verbal and electronic approaches; and for tracking feedback received, so that it can be incorporated into program evolutionHelp to define and implement a plan for ensuring that Jhpiego-Uganda is well represented at the many meetings taking place in the public health realm, and that Jhpiego is contributing effectively to the dialogue that takes place through these meetingsHelp define a system for ensuring that Jhpiego is using these engagements as an opportunity to continually refine its understanding of the external environment in which it is operating, and to continually evolve its activities to respond to that environmentWork with the Country Director to develop effective knowledge management systems at the country level

Increasing Program Sharing and Visibility in Uganda:

Lead implementation of all of the strategies aboveWork with individual program managers to generate, document and share lessons learned from program activitiesDevelop a packet of compelling program information (and a system for ensuring that it is regularly updated), with an emphasis on presenting results of interventions and innovations, and lessons learned in the implementation processEnsure that all information/communication coming out of the program is presented in such a way that it gives a clear and compelling presentation, and reflects the innovation and effectiveness of the Jhpiego-Uganda programLead efforts to regularly share program information through multiple outlets (presentations, one-on-one meetings, comments at large meetings, written briefings, etc.)Work with the Country Director and program managers to ensure that Jhpiego-Uganda is regularly engaging with and providing the necessary program information to key partners and stakeholders through one-on-one interactions, and also through regular presence at meetings and other group forums

Contributing to Jhpiego's Global External Relations and Communications Efforts:

Coordinate and share in-country communications with Jhpiego's global External Relations and Communications officeLead on ensuring that Jhpiego-Uganda is contributing fully to Jhpiego's global efforts to tell the story of its great workLead the process of writing success stories and defining high level program highlights that can be widely disseminated in Uganda and globally through the External Relations and Communications (ERCO) team; submit photos, Facebook posts and short updates to ERCO for global disseminationKeep the Uganda portion of the Jhpiego website up-to-date

Required Skills and Experience:

Knowledge of the field of public health (either a degree that is related to public health, or experience working in a public health program)Ability to quickly understand both the theory and the practice of public health programming in a developing country is essentialOutstanding interpersonal skills; the ability to relate to a wide range of individuals, and to instill confidence and trustExcellent written and verbal communication skillsOutstanding presentation skillsThe ability to quickly learn and to write and talk knowledgeably about new subjects

Uganda has witnessed increasing and highly devastating disasters, both climate and human-induced that exerted a significant human and economic toll on its population and which, to an extent affected the country’s ability to fully maximize the benefits from its economic growth and social development. The country remains vulnerable to a range of hazards that, if not prevented and/or mitigated, can result in disasters. To address this situation, the Government of Uganda (GoU) developed and approved a National Policy on Disaster Preparedness and Management in 2012 with the purpose of creating and promoting a disaster preparedness and management system that safeguards the country against disasters and ensures continued productive capacity of the people.To respond to this challenge, the GoU in collaboration with UNDP is implementing a programme entitled, ‘Strengthening Capacities for Disaster Risk Management and Resilience-Building’, with the intent of strengthening capacity for disaster risk management and resilience-building, including mitigation of, and adaptation to, climate change and the provision of protection and other assistance to citizens and refugees affected by conflict or natural disasters. The programme undertakes this by strengthening the capacity of institutions and establishing systems and mechanisms to enhance national and community resilience.To support implementation of the programme, the GoU in partnership with UNDP seeks to deploy an International DRM Advisor for an initial period of twelve (12) months.·             Providing D/CRM policy and advisory services;·             Management support to D/CRM processes;·             Leadership and provision of DRM advisory support to the UNCT;·             Ensures the establishment of a DRM knowledge culture with effective advocacy tools.Provides policy and advisory services to determine optimised approaches for enhanced development effectiveness in support of Disaster and Climate Risk Management (D/CRM) processes, focusing on the achievement of the following results:·             Provide technical leadership in the development of the DRM Act and the Resilience and DRM Strategic Framework and Investment Programme (SFIP) for Uganda that is participatory, inclusive, and which operationalizes the National Policy on Disaster Preparedness and Management;·             Lead advocacy efforts related to mainstreaming of D/CRM into Government systems, the UN and other development partner supported development initiatives in the country;·             Perform additional tasks as may be assigned.Provides management support to resilience and D/CRM processes which is needs-based and conducted in an effective and principled manner in the best interests of affected and vulnerable populations, focusing on achievement of the following results:·             Support the mainstreaming of the relevant CPAP strategic objectives within UNDAF operationalization where appropriate;·             Ensure the operationalization of the resilience and D/CRM initiative in the UNDAF;·             Develop a comprehensive programme based on the UNDAF, CPD, and the Resilience and DRM SFIP;·             Advise the OPM on D/CRM issues including: promoting the adoption of prevention and mitigation measures, linkages with climate change adaptation, utilization of emergency grants, post-disaster needs assessments, reorientation, as appropriate, of existing programs to meet risk reduction and recovery needs; Job Purpose:

The Financial Management and Operations Director (FOD) is responsible for the overall financial management and administration for the program funded by USAID in Uganda. Reports to: Head of OperationsUWESO has a volunteer membership of over 20,000 people.  This volunteer structure provides the basis for mobilization of communities to participate and share responsibilities in improving the quality of life for orphans and other vulnerable children in Uganda.Job Summary: The Management Accountant will be responsible for generating timely and accurate internal reports to management for effective decision making and conduct budgeting while ensuring that budgetary controls are in place and costs are minimized.Key Duties and Responsibilities:  Ensure prompt and effective accounting and management of revenue/cashCompile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, and document business transactions.Receive and review income analysis reports from UWESO entitiesIntuitively review posting of all journal entries and check them to ensure proper transaction allocations in the General LedgerReview and/or prepare daily, weekly and monthly cash returnsMonitor the budget lines to ensure that all activities are in line with annual budgetsSupport heads of departments in preparing and reviewing budgetsEnsure timely closure of books of accounts in preparation for the audit processEstablish, maintain, and coordinate the implementation of accounting and accounting control proceduresOversee subordinates and ensure a competent and motivated teamMake periodic field visits to provide technical assistance to Regional Accountants to ensure that work is done according to set policies and proceduresActively take part in the preparation of the annual reportQualifications, Skills and Experience:The ideal candidate should possess a good Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Finance and Accounting option), Business Administration (Finance and Accounting option) or equivalentProfessional accounting certification like Association of Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA)At least three years’ experience in similar post in a reputable organizationPossess the ability to use financial and accounting software applications (Navision)Should be a team player.Proven ability to work with minimum supervision.High degree of personal integrity.Excellent Analytical & Report writing skills.Ability to attend to detail, focus on quality and spot errors or mistakes at an early stageAll suitably qualified candidates are requested to submit their applications with certified copies of academic transcripts, detailed CVs with salary history, contact addresses of 3 work related referees to the Human Resource Officer, Uganda Womens Effort to Save Orphans, Plot 2 Tagore Crescent, Kamwokya, P.O. Save the Children seeks to fill the following vacant positions and applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced Persons for the operations.

Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the person will provide technical assistance for aspects related to financial management and reporting. The Cost and management Accountant may be called upon as and when necessary to support the emergency team in cases of humanitarian crisis.

Academic back ground, Experience & Person Specifications:

Minimum of a Bachelors’ Degree in Business Administration or finance management or professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA, CIMA, ICSA etc or the equivalent accrued working experience in a related position.At least 4 years relevant experience with International NGO’s particularly those addressing human/children’s rights and those applying partnership approaches is desirable.

General specifications applicable to all positions:

Experience of working with local partners and District Local Government in Child Rights Governance, Health, Nutrition,Education, HIV/AIDS or Child Protection is an added advantage.Strong analytical skills and strategic planning abilities.Ability to establish and maintain conducive collegial relations and perform effectively as a member of a team.Willingness to travel and work in hard-to-reach areas, occasionally under strenuous conditions.Computer literacy and excellent documentation skills are a must.Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diversebackgrounds and culturesAbility to intervene with crisis management or troubleshooting as necessary.Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coachingExcellent time management and planning capacity.Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.How to apply:
