Kampala Hospital is a privately owned hospital that was established in

2007. Our mandate was and is to bring non-existent services to the countries

that were often sought by many people who frequently moved abroad to seek

quality medical care.


Job Summary: The Theatre

Coordinator will provide exceptional care for the patient in the peri-operative

environment where quality, respect, caring and compassion are the core of

practice. The incumbent will be accountable for the effective delivery of

competent, compassionate, and efficient care for the peri-operative patient,

undergoing anesthesia, surgery and/or procedure. His /her role includes

clinical practice, human resources management, including staffing and

evaluations, and financial.


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • The

    incumbent will act as an advisor within the theatre unit.

  • The

    incumbent will take overall leadership and provide clinical expertise in

    the provision of care in the operating department.

  • Responsible

    for the management of an operating theatre and to share responsibility for

    the overall efficiency and reputation of the department.

  • The

    incumbent will assess theatre practices and implement changes to ensure

    high standards of nursing practice in theatres

  • In

    charge of identifying training needs of theatre staff and implement an

    appropriate training schedule

  • Participate

    in teaching activities within the department as a whole.

  • Identifies

    opportunities for staff to expand their knowledge and skills.

  • Ensures

    staff are appropriately prepared for their roles and responsibilities

    through teaching and supervision and acting as a role model.

  • In

    charge of writing and implementing theatre protocols ensuring that they

    are evidence based.

  • Implements,

    maintain and monitor theatre protocols and standard operating procedures

    in relation to the hospital quality management system and quality

    assurance standards

  • Ensures

    systems are in place for maintaining, cleaning and safe use of equipment.

  • Ensures

    a safe and effective environment for practice in an efficiently arranged

    physical setting.

  • The

    incumbent ensures and maintains appropriate clinical and other records.

  • Ensures

    the cleanliness of the recovery unit and theatre suite.

  • The

    incumbent maintains an appropriate stock of supplies and ensure best

    practice in the use.

  • Maintains

    and develops own professional knowledge and expertise.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The

    applicants for the Theatre Coordinator vacancy should hold a First class Diploma

    / Degree in Nursing

  • Possession

    of a Diploma / Certificate in theatre training will be an added advantage.

  • A

    minimum of four to five years’ experience in an acute setting

  • Demonstrates

    a high level of skill in the practice of theatre care.

  • Excellent

    communications skills (Written, Oral & Presentation)

  • Computer

    literacy i.e. IT skills in MS Office (high Level)

  • Fluency

    in both written and spoken English
