Humanitarian Action is a non-governmental non- profit making organization that

provides health services to refugees on behalf of UNHCR.  Our mission is to respond to crises and

disasters in Africa; to enhance communities at risk, so they can solve their

concerns themselves.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:


·        
Conducts diagnostic testing procedures, reviews and

verifies results to provide all relevant data that may pertain to the

prevention, diagnosis or treatment of diseases.


·        
Records and verifies test results to ensure

integrity of test result.


·        
Supports the laboratory and/ or technical manager

with overseeing and monitoring equipment maintenance and asset management


·        
Operates the equipment used in the laboratory to

ensure that it is operating efficiently and providing accurate results.


·        
Implements sound housekeeping procedures and work

effectively with others as a member of a team to ensure a safe working

environment in accordance with relevant legislation and all safety protocols.


·        
Reports incidents; including instrument failures and

personal injuries in compliance with relevant organizational policy.


·        
Attends training and seminars and participates in

continuing professional development (CPD) activities to continuously update

knowledge


·        
Adheres to professional conduct requirements in line

with organizational policy and relevant professional body ethical standards.


·        
Performing any other duty assigned to him/her from

time to time.


Qualifications, Skills and

Experience: 


·        
The Laboratory Assistant should hold a certificate

medical laboratory techniques or a related qualification.


·        
The applicant must be registered with UAHPC – Uganda

Allied Health Professional Council.


·        
At least a year’s experience as a lab assistant with

at least 6 months in rural setting.


·        
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


·        
Ability to ride a motorcycle is an added advantage.


·        
Ability to work as part of a team


·        
Ability to work in a highly demanding environment

with minimum supervision.


·        
Should pay utmost importance to accuracy of results


·        
Confidentiality / Sensitivity


·        
Manual dexterity.
