Benedictine Eye Hospital (BEH)

is a Private Not-For-Profit service of the Benedictine Monastery of Tororo,

Uganda.The mission of Benedictine Eye Hospital is to improve the social

economic status of the society through prevention of visual impairments and the

treatment, rehabilitation and empowerment of persons with disability (with

special focus on children).


Job Summary:  The incumbent will oversee all procurement and

disposal activities of the hospital right from planning, initiation, contract

award, signing, execution in accordance with the strategic and operational

requirements. The Procurement officer will be managing, supervising and

coordinating all operational and logistics-related activities for the hospital.

This includes but not limited to providing oversight of procurements and

compliance, ensuring that procurement policies and procedures are correctly

interpreted, understood and implemented by the staff. The position contributes

to all major procurement decisions and strategic plans.


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • The

    incumbent will maintain a database of suppliers and their terms and

    conditions of service.

  • Help

    requesters come up with proper specifications of goods and services, to

    ensure correct procurement

  • Upon

    requisition of goods or services, call for quotations/ bids from

    suppliers.

  • In

    charge of evaluating quotations/bids following Hospital’s procurement

    procedures.

  • Make

    recommendations on procurement to the Senior Management on the procurement

    of goods and services.

  • Call

    for quotations for the provision of services by contractors and negotiate

    with service providers on the terms of reference.

  • Routinely

    communicate with vendors and ensure that a harmonious relationship exists

    between them and the Hospital.

  • Work

    closely with service providers to ensure smooth provision of services to

    the program.

  • Work

    in liaison with the store officers to ensure optimal supply of Drugs,

    stationery, office equipment, furniture and other amenities for

    performance of Hospital work.

  • Liaise

    with the Uganda Revenue Authority with respect to imports and tax

    exemption letters.

  • Quickly

    respond to correspondences to the Hospital, of a routine nature as

    required by the Hospital Director and Public Relations Officer from time

    to time.

  • Ensure

    all invoices are submitted for payment on time.

  • Significantly

    contribute to the quarterly operational report.

  • Accuracy

    and proper keeping of records as well as reporting

  • Perform

    any other duties as may be assigned to you by your supervisor from time to

    time.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The

    incumbent should preferably hold a university degree in Procurement &

    Logistics Management, Business Administration, Commerce, Management or

    Social Sciences. A Postgraduate diploma in Procurement and Logistics from

    a reputable institution will be an added advantage.

  • A

    minimum of five years’ experience in Procurement with a similar

    organisation.

  • Working

    knowledge of Government procurement & Disposal guidelines

  • Prior

    experience in community led projects adds an advantage

  • Excellent

    analytical and problem solving skills

  • Excellent

    negotiation skills

  • Excellent

    communication and interpersonal skills

  • Computer

    literacy with a good command of word processing and spreadsheets

  • Good

    supervisory skills
