The

Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU) is a national Faith-Based

Non-Government Organization comprising of the Roman Catholic Church, the Church

of Uganda, the Uganda Orthodox Church, the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, the

Seventh-day Adventist Church, the Pentecostal and Evangelical Churches. IRCU’s

Vision is: ‘a divinely peaceful, united, prosperous Uganda where all people

enjoy full health and freedoms for the common good.’ The Council implements a

range of programs namely HIV/AIDS and Public Health, Gender Based Violence

Prevention, Peace, Justice and Governance.

Job Summary:  The Governance Specialist will support IRCU in

the coordination and provision of technical support, and contribute to

developing thematic governance issues in line with IRCU strategy and other

policies; and link the organization with other internal and external

stakeholders.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

·        
Strengthen the IRCU capacity to implement a

strategic and well – defined governance programme

·        
Build the capacity of teams and partners to engage

in , advocacy activities and participate in advocacy campaigns/ work in line

with the strategic objectives of IRCU

·        
Identify internal and external fora and

opportunities for networking, sharing the IRCU program experiences and learning

as required by the IRCU philosophy, and build mechanisms for incorporating such

experiences and lessons in all the directorate publications.

Significantly contribute to IRCU-level policy making

corporate interests and functions in line with organizational strategies and policies

·        
Mobilize resources required to implement innovative

projects designed to realize the strategic objectives of IRCU.

·        
Maintain, monitor and control communication between

IRCU and stakeholders in line with the organizational communication policy and

strategy.

·        
Coordinate and facilitate the participation of IRCU

policy dialogue: (produce monthly policy briefs, strategic issue papers and

periodical updates on publication of important reports

·        
Participate as necessary in policy dialogue with

Government, development partners and other forums.

·        
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Secretary

General.

Qualifications, Skills and

Experience: 

·        
The ideal candidates for the Governance Specialist

vacancy should hold a Master’s degree in Peace, Conflict Studies, Human rights

& Good governance, Law, International relations, or any social sciences.

PhD in any social sciences or related field shall be of added advantage

·        
Additional trainings in Human Rights, Conflict

Resolution, Public Speaking and International policies on Peace, Justice and

Governance.

·        
At least six years’ experience in development in a

governmental, multilateral or civil society organization in multi-cultural

setting.

·        
Promotes the vision, mission, and strategic goals of

IRCU.

·        
Displays cultural, gender, religion, race,

nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability.

·        
Strong advocacy, lobbying and networking skills.

·        
Good organizational, attention to detail and

coordination skills; ability to work calmly under the stress of conflicting

deadlines and assignments.

·        
Excellent oral and written communication skills.

·        
Computer literacy i.e. Microsoft Office applications

experience (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher)

·        
Demonstrates integrity by modelling the IRCU’s values

and ethical standards.
