Secretary Manager At Teso Tropical Fruit Cooperative Union – Uganda - 2015
Teso Tropical Fruit Cooperative Union is umbrella organization for fruit farmers in Teso sub region. In partnership with We Effect, TEFCU aims at strengthening primary cooperatives in each subcounty
and building the capacity of its members on Cooperative Principles and Operations. The Union carries the mandate to promote quality and quantity fruit production, value addition and marketing. The Union covers 8 districts in Teso region to include, Katakwi, Amuria, Bukedea, Kumi, Ngora, Serere, Kaberamaido and Soroti. The vision statement for the union; To be a recognized source of a high quality farm fresh fruits product in East Africa. The Mission Statement; To promote sustainable production and marketing of a high quality fruits in viable quantity to our customers for improved livelihood of the fruit farmers and the entire community in Teso Sub Region.
Position: Secretary Manager
Reports to: Board, AGM and Development Partners
Nature of Engagement: Two (2) years Contract renewable annually
Duty station: Soroti-Uganda
Key roles and responsibilities
Plan, implement, monitor and evaluate TEFCU activities in line with strategic and business plan, Government and partners policies.
Account for all the financial, material and human resources in line with TEFCU bye-law and policies.
Ensuring appropriate expertise and skills set for executing the business process including staff performance appraisal to ensure that TEFCU delivers social impact within the communities of operations.
Managing the operation and providing strategic leadership and direction to TEFCU.
Ensuring successful introduction of services, create profitable business, strengthen partnership with relevant stakeholders including private sector for a achievement of TEFCU objectives.
Ensuring that management systems and business process are in place to ensure timely, regular, accurate, efficient and effective monitoring, evaluation and reporting of business and financial progress of TEFCU operation.
Development of strong revenue base consisting of existing and planned products and services.
Source for financial resources to implement TEFCU strategic and business plans.
Enhance team work among TEFCU staff and development partners.
Preserve and defend TEFCU cultural values and image.
Participate in the formulation and review of TEFCU’s strategic plan, policies and guidelines.
Qualification and specification
Bachelors degree in Social Work, Social Administration, Development studies, related social sciences or law.
Masters in the related field will be an added advantage.
Prudent management and good judgment skills
Prudent analytical skills, ability to practically steer for timely delivery of results, ability to support high team performance and experience in leading and motivating staff including geographically remote teams
Experience in dealing with government agencies, private sector companies, donors at senior management level
High level financial and business management skills for effective business monitoring and reporting and active commitment to promoting gender equality and the interest of marginalized people in all aspects of the union’s work
Excellent written and verbal skills to motivate influence and negotiate.
Knowledge in cooperatives is key.
Age limit – between 30 to 44 years.
Competence
Ability to decide and initiate action, adhere to principles, values and to cope up pressures and setbacks.
Entrepreneurial and commercial thinking.
