Job Summary:  The Kampala Bureau Chief will be responsible

for the newspaper’s news editor for Uganda and effectively manage content

generation for the newspaper and its digital platforms.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

·        
Responsible for overseeing the quality and quantity

of editorial content from Uganda

·        
In charge of assessing political, social and

economic climate in Uganda, while anticipating likely developments for

coverage;

·        
Briefing reporters and advising them to write and

deliver stories within the set daily deadline

·        
Keen review of written stories to ensure they meet

editorial objectives, house style and journalistic ethics;

·        
In charge of monitoring, guiding and mentoring

reporters and recommending areas for career growth.

·        
Works closely with the Managing Editor and Chief Sub

so as to choose the main stories of the day/week for writes or re-writes;

·        
Guiding reporters, monitoring their productivity and

general content and appraising their performance;

Qualifications, Skills and

Experience: 

·        
The applicant should preferably hold a University

degree in Journalism or a Bachelors’ degree in relevant field with a Postgraduate

diploma in Journalism;

·        
At least five years’ experience as an Editor or

seven years’ experience as a reporter;

·        
Broad knowledge and understanding of local, regional

and global political, economic and development issues

·        
Competence in legal, ethical and operational

sensitivities relating to journalism;

·        
Mastery of English language

·        
Excellent organisational skills;

·        
Good management, interpersonal and analytical skills.
