Established in

2008, the Makerere/UVRI Infection and Immunity Research Training Programme aims

to bring the premier research University (Makerere University) together with

the premier health research institute (the Uganda Virus Research Institute) in

Uganda, to help train the next cadre of health researchers in the 21st Century.

Over the next five years, MUII plans to transition to a Centre of Excellence,

.providing support and opportunities not only for trainees, but for all

scientists in Uganda interested in the field.


Job Summary:  The Programme Manager will oversee and deliver

the objectives of the MUII Programme over the next funding cycle


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 


·        
The job holder will work in liaison with the

Director of the MUII Programme to develop programme strategy


·        
Support talented young African scientists to develop

in their careers


·        
Regularly interact with international collaborators


·        
Organise courses, meetings and events


·        
Arrange and chair executive meetings


·        
The incumbent will meet with Programme staff and

researchers to ensure Programme Objectives are being met


·        
Ensure the smooth implementation and running of the

MUII Programme


·        
Mentor and supervise administrative staff


·        
Actively engage in Monitoring and Evaluation


·        
Deputise for the Director when required


Qualifications, Skills and

Experience: 


·        
The ideal candidate should hold an MSC or PhD (preferred)

in a relevant discipline


·        
Passion for the development of science in Uganda


·        
Broad knowledge and understanding of research

responsibilities and conduct


·        
Ability to organise, time manage, set goals and

motivate staff


·        
Personal integrity, ability to learn, flexibility

and concern for excellence


·        
This position would suit a research scientist

wishing to change careers into Programme and Project Management.
