About USAID UHSC Project:


Management

Sciences for Health (MSH) is implementing a USAID-funded project called the

Uganda Health Supply Chain, a five year program supporting the Government of

Uganda’s health system to improve the availability and accessibility of

essential medicines and health supplies (EMHS). The expected results of are

to:1) strengthen national policies and strategies and support cost-effective,

equitable, and transparent utilization of EMHS resources; 2) strengthen country

capacity for effective management and utilization of EMHS; and 3) increase

availability and access of EMHS among priority populations.


Job Summary: The Technical

Officer- Appropriate Medicine use (AMU) will support initiatives targeted at

improving appropriate medicine use in Uganda Health Supply Chain (UHSC)

programme. The incumbent will support activities aimed at improving rational

use of medicine in Uganda, as well support and support and strengthen UNAMU. In

collaboration with the UHSC management team and Harvard University, the

Technical Officer- AMU will render support in the design and implementation of

strategies that will improve appropriate medicine use for 5 selected priority

diseases and revive medicines and therapeutic committees in Ugandan Hospitals.


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 


·        
Support the design and implementation of problem

analysis and baseline studies for selected priority diseases


·        
Support the development and implementation of

strategies to make hospital medicines and therapeutic committees (MTC) function


·        
The job holder will also develop and implement

strategies that will improve diagnosis and appropriate prescribing for 5-10

selected priority diseases.


·        
The duty bearer will support the work of the Uganda

Medicines and Therapeutics Advisory Committee (UMTAC)


·        
Work in liaison with PD RMU unit to design and

development of BCC/IEC materials for prescribing


·        
Further develop and implement the newly established

Uganda Network for Appropriate Medicines Use and the collaboration with the

International Network for Rational Drug Use (INRUD)


Qualifications, Skills and

Experience: 


·        
The ideal candidate must hold a Master’s degree in

public health or related field is an added advantage


·        
The applicant should preferably be a medical doctor

with interest and documented experience in appropriate medicines use


·        
A minimum of three years’ experience working with or

in a clinical setting or public health programmes


·        
Significant experience with designing and

implementing behavioral change communication (BCC) and IEC programmes is an

added advantage


·        
Working knowledge and understanding of the Uganda

public health system.


·        
Prior exposure and experience with MTC and the use

of logistic and financial data to strengthen AMU


·        
Capacity building experience including experience in

development of training material is an added advantage


·        
Previous exposure and experience in designing and

implementing intervention studies


·        
Strong teamwork and team-building skills


·        
Strong English skills required, including ability to

write technical reports and documents


·        
Excellent coordination skills


·        
Good computer skills, including knowledge of

Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point


·        
Keen attention to detail
