Job Summary: The Manager, Claims and Settlements will plan and

implement sufficient coverage for the Banks assets and business activities by

taking on appropriate insurance policies while driving cost efficiency, and

undertake the control and management of the claims processes & procedures

through use of effective techniques to achieve the objectives of claims

efficiency and turn-around.


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • The job holder maintains a close watch on

    industry trends, evolving insurance strategies and market health to ensure

    Stanbic Bank is remaining consistent with and taking full advantage of

    changes in the insurance environment

  • Align processes and procedures to ensure the

    achievement of the risk, financial and service related objectives  of insurance in the Bank

  • Research, develop and implement interventions

    to continuously drive value-for-money from the insurance portfolio and

    activities of the Bank, in co-ordination with the Head of Operations, with

    a view of driving efficiency within insurance services.


2. Manage the Bank

Insurance Portfolio:

  • Ensure covers are placed (new and renewal),

    and support the evaluation of insurance brokers to obtain competitive

    pricing on premiums

  • Leverage understanding of risk, insurance

    markets and best practices to identify the most appropriate insurance

    solutions

  • Keenly review benchmarking and industry

    trends to make decisions related to program limits and deductibles /

    retention that attain the most value

  • Prepare and submit reports for Executive

    Committee and other risk committees on general health of insurance

    portfolio highlighting risks and propose mitigating strategies

  • Provide support the Bank’s cost saving

    initiatives by negotiating premiums with the Insurance brokers and review

    of existing policies claims trends and history to remove any duplication

    that may exist or suggest alternative coverage methods.

  • Carry out analysis and coordinate the

    insurance “fit-for-purpose” review on an annual basis.

  • Define SLA’s for settlement of insurance

    claims and follow up to ensure claims are settled within set SLA timelines

  • Carry out regular meetings with Insurance

    brokers and all stakeholders on outstanding claims with the aim of quick

    settlement of the claims

  • Ensure timely submission of completed

    documentation to the insurance brokers to aid the claims settlement

    process

  • Provide clear and timely reports on the

    status of claims in regards to claims raised, outstanding claims,

    withdrawn claims, settled claims; on the nature, number of and value of

    claims logged.

  • Guides on process and procedure changes that

    would be required to better supports the claims management process

  • Training – Ensure all the resources in the

    team are skilled appropriately to meet the demands of the job

  • Performance Management – coach, recognize

    & reward performance appropriately

  • Management of poor performance and discipline


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate should preferably hold a Degree

    in business studies or any related fields

  • Advanced Diploma in insurance (ACII) is an

    added advantage

  • A minimum of five (5) years general Insurance

    experience with exposure to various aspects such as relationship

    management, claims and underwriting

  • Significant exposure and experience in

    managing and leading a team and service related areas is desirable

  • Broad knowledge and understanding of

    insurance principles, procedures, processes, services and products.

  • An in depth knowledge and understanding of

    the policies and procedures     

  • Working knowledge on the various products

    offered by the Bank

  • Working knowledge of the Code of Banking

    Practice

  • Knowledge of legislation as it relates to

    insurance and banking

  • Computer literacy skills

  • Basic knowledge of Operations management

    principles

  • Proven leadership and people management

    record

  • Understand the broader business environment

    from a sector, organization, and business unit and role perspective

  • Working knowledge of HR processes
