Projects Development and Management


The

Rural Electrification Agency (REA) is the Secretariat of the Rural

Electrification Board (REB) as established by Statutory instrument 2001 No. 75.

The REB’s main function is to oversee the management of the Rural

Electrification Fund (REF) and facilitate the development and implementation of

rural electrification projects under several sources of funding (i.e.

Government of Uganda, World Bank under Energy for Rural Transformation, (ERT)

project, SIDA, JICA. NORAD. BADEA, SFD, etc.)


Job Summary: The Assistant Project Engineer will be tasked with

the supervision of construction of rural electrification projects for quality

compliance. The jobholder will be responsible for ensuring and enhancing

quality of works and workmanship and will represent the Agency in the day-today

management of projects including liaising with key stakeholders to ensure

smooth project implementation.


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Supervise construction work for quality

    compliance

    • Ensure supply and use of quality

      materials as per contract

    • The jobholder will ensure adherence

      to good engineering practices during installation

    • Keenly review and recommend change

      orders and or instructions

    • Audit and inspect poles delivered to

      site

  • Develop and maintain a daily work log

  • Manage the entire value chain including

    suppliers, subcontractors and key stakeholders to mitigate any risks

  • Prepare test protocols, schedule and

    facilitate network pre-commissioning and commissioning

  • Facilitate handover of completed network

  • Carry out periodic defects liability

    inspections/audits, generate snag lists and follow-up correction of snags

  • Ensure participation of the following key

    stakeholders during implementation of the project including the local

    community and service providers

  • Perform any other duties specified by the

    Head of Department.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 


  • The applicants should at least hold a diploma

    in Electrical Engineering

  • A minimum of three years of related work experience

    in powerline construction.

  • Significant experience in powerline

    construction supervision and project management

  • Working knowledge of power system

    commissioning and maintenance practice.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and

    public relations skills.

  • Computer knowledge

  • Good reporting skills

  • Age: Below 30 years.
