Job Summary: The Officer, Control will be responsible for

ensuring best practices of operational risk management across the designated

departments in order to improve the control environment, through oversight and

monitoring of the control environment to mitigate risk in transactions and the

underlying processes.


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • The officer is the control Framework (CODAC)

    champion responsible for establishing robust, efficient and correctly

    calibrated controls to detect, correct and mitigate gaps or failures in

    processes performed within the agreed Operations units

  • The jobholder will work closely with the

    Operations staff within the designated Control areas of responsibility and

    accountability to ensure that the staffs are aware of any regulatory

    changes and changes required to update procedures, policy and process- in

    other words, creating awareness and understanding of the processes

    governing the designated control area.

  • Responsibility to calibrate, monitor

    compliance, report, challenge and validate KRIs, RCSAs and KCIs for the

    designated area of control.

  • Report and escalate to Manager Ops Governance

    any suspected breaches that carry operational, financial, regulatory and

    reputational risks.

  • Carry out and provide clear Root Cause Analysis

    (RCA)  statements for ALL incidents

    reported within the given control area clearly identifying the gaps and

    verifying and having oversight of measures which will be employed to

    mitigate and prevent reoccurrence of the same.

  • Follow up on consequence management in detail

    for all incidents reported within the stipulated control area and monitor

    remedial actions taken.

  • Keenly track and collate (internal &

    external) audit findings for the given control area, ensure closure on

    time and NO repeat audit findings within the respective areas- communicate

    any delays related to audit findings where need be – support and take

    ownership of actions agreed to close identified.

  • Ensure that levels and limits of system

    access are well calibrated and controlled.

  • Providing all relevant information updates

    which aim at strengthening CODAC to the officer in charge of CODAC- play a

    back-up role to ensure that CODAC adoption is tracked and monitored.

  • Permeate a “control” mind-set across every

    corner of the designated control area so as to ensure that Control and

    risk themes are adequately understood.

  • Actively monitor and identify loss trends and

    ensure sustainable solutions are implemented

  • Carry out and profile a Risk and Control

    self-assessment for all areas of Control, constantly monitor mitigating

    checks and provide guidance.

  • Actively participate in respective meetings

    to ensure that control aspects are fully addressed.

  • Support the maintenance of the Business

    Continuity Plans for the units assigned and ensures these Plans are regularly

    updated.

  • Up-Skills oneself regarding new products and

    procedures through attendance of workshops/presentations and reading of

    internal and external communications.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate for the Stanbic Bank

    Officer Control job placement should hold a University Degree from a

    recognised University

  • At least two to five years’ experience in the

    operations control or risk control environment

  • Broad knowledge, awareness and appreciation

    of industry standards in respect of operational control and experience of

    having practically aligned control processes to these standards.

  • Significant experience and exposure to

    regulators, internal and external audit functions and a good understanding

    of the regulation that directs operational processes. 

  • Extensive knowledge of operations control

    processes and techniques

  • Detailed knowledge of the bank’s products and

    processes

  • Utilise, develop and implement systems and

    processes to capture, manage and distribute up-to-date, accurate and

    readily accessible knowledge and information to a wide range of

    stakeholders.

  • Broad knowledge and understanding the broader

    business environment in which you work throughout the different levels of

    Operations and the entire organization, as a whole.

  • Comprehensive understanding of banking

    transaction processes relevant to the designated area of control

  • Knowledge of cost management principles and

    practices

  • Knowledge of the applicable legislation
