Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) is responsible for bulk

purchase of electricity from the generating companies and selling the

electricity in bulk to the distribution companies throughout Uganda. UETCL is

also responsible for all exports and imports of electricity to Uganda. UETCL

envisions: “To become a leading strategic business partner in the transmission

and Single Buyer Business and to support sustainable energy development in

Uganda.”

Job Summary: The Technician will mainly carry out planned and

preventive maintenance programmes for UETCL Transmission substations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Conduct assessment, maintenance and major
  
  repairs on other substation equipment.


• The jobholder will read and interpret
  
  engineering drawings and circuit diagrams.


• Assemble, test and commission power
  
  transformers, high voltage switchgears, and other substation equipment.


• The incumbent will design and implement
  
  electrical circuit for plant and equipment in the substations.


• Plant/Site Inventory Management, expense
  
  management, movement tracking, etc.


• Ensure proper functionality of all equipment,
  
  auxiliaries and supports, handling troubleshooting, repairs, and fault
  
  clearances, ensuring the security of all plant items and operations.


• Equipment Management, Switching and Safety,
  
  i.e. Routine Equipment Checks, raising works-orders, noting abnormal
  
  equipment indications etc.


• The incumbent will collect materials from
  
  stores and checking their worthiness according to approved requisition
  
  voucher and required specs.


• Attend to plant and system emergencies
  
  whenever called upon.


• Perform any other duties as may be assigned
  
  from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

• The applicant should hold a Higher Technical
  
  Diploma (HTD) or its equivalent in Electrical Engineering.


• Prior exposure and experience in Electrical
  
  Installations and Protection Schemes on the high voltage equipment.


• Possess good supervisory and interpersonal
  
  skills.


• Computer literacy skills


• Possess a valid National Driving permit.


• Ability to withstand stressful work
  
  situations and have willingness to work long hours outside the normal
  
  hours.


• Be a person of integrity


• Highly motivated, Innovative and a committed
  
  team player
