Duty Station: Lira, Uganda
VEDCO is a national NGO founded in 1986 with a
vision to improve the quality of life of small and medium holder farmers
through sustainable agriculture. VEDCO is a community development players with
a focus on four thematic areas; Food and Nutrition Security, Agriculture Trade
and Development. Natural Resource Management, Farmer Led Advocacy and
Institutional Development. In a bid to improve farmers livelihood, VEDCO in
partnership with PLAN Uganda supported by the European Union, are due to
implement a three and a half years project on empowering the youth for
sustainable livelihoods in Northern Uganda. The project shall be implemented in
the districts of Lira and Alebtong. The overall objective of the project is to
increase access to employment for marginalized youth in Lira and Alebtong
districts through foundational, transferable, technical and vocational skills,
access to financial services, and a strong representation to and engagement
with the private sector.
Job Summary: The VEDCO Project Extension Officer will
provide training and technical advisory services to young women and men in line
the project goal
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Mobilize, sensitize
and train young women and men for sustainable livelihoods in line with the
project goal. - Actively support
young women and men have improved transferable skills and experiences. - Offer technical
support to young women and men for increased access to financial services. - Support increased
participation of young women and men in decision making forums and linkage
with the private sector. - Train and provide
technical support to farmers and youth led organizations. - Actively participate
in project monitoring and evaluation activities, maintaining data base on
project beneficiaries and other key collaborators such as businesses,
business service providers, etc
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant should
preferably hold a Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness or related fields from
a reorganized institution. - At least two years’
field experience in a similar position in a reputable Institution. - Proven ability to
mobilize and train targeted groups for improved livelihood. - Proven personal
integrity - Good report writing
skills - Ability to work in
rural areas - Possession of a
valid driving permit (Class A) is a MUST - Fluency in local
language - Possess excellent
negotiation and networking skills - Computer literacy
i.e. proficient in the use of Microsoft computer packages:- Word, Excel
& Power point
