Uganda Electricity Transmission
Company Limited (UETCL) is responsible for bulk purchase of electricity from
the generating companies and selling the electricity in bulk to the
distribution companies throughout Uganda. UETCL is also responsible for all
exports and imports of electricity to Uganda. UETCL envisions: “To become
a leading strategic business partner in the transmission and Single Buyer
Business and to support sustainable energy development in Uganda.”
Job Summary: The Senior
Protection Engineer will primarily manage and maintain the Power System
Protection schemes on a daily basis.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Write
down a schedule for all planned jobs. - Actively
coordinate all resources available to ensure optimum use and maximum
efficiency. - Responsible
for relay coordination. - Short
circuit analysis and fault level calculation. - Mentor
and support subordinate staff for skill improvement. - Regularly
analyse relay coordination mal-operations as they occur. - Develop
new protection schemes as the power system expands. - Adjust
relay settings as need may arise to ensure proper co-ordination at all
time. - Manage
the installation, maintenance and commissioning of energy meters at all
commercial boundaries. - Attend
to any emergencies/breakdowns as they occur - Perform
any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The
ideal candidate should possess a University Degree in Electrical
Engineering. - Past
experience in the protection functions in the electricity sector. - Professional
registration with relevant body. - The
applicant must also have detailed working knowledge in power metering
using modern packages. - Possess
excellent analytical skills, Interpersonal skills, Leadership skills,
Report writing skills. - Ability
to withstand stressful work situations and have willingness to work long
hours outside the normal hours. - Be
a person of high integrity, must be highly motivated, innovative and a
committed team player.
