The Wildlife Conservation

Society (WCS), an international conservation NGO with its headquarters at the

Bronx Zoo, New York, USA has been operating in Uganda for more than 50 years.

WCS works to conserve biological diversity and ecosystem function through

applied research, management of natural resources and providing technical

support to Ugandan organizations and agencies.


USAID have funded the Wildlife

Conservation Society (WCS) to work with the Government of Uganda and Civil

Society to establish a Uganda Biodiversity Conservation Trust Fund (UBCTF) for

the country that is an independent entity and which will be able to finance the

conservation of different sites within the country.


Job Summary: The Project

Coordinator will be responsible for managing the four-year project and assist

in leading the creation and development of the Conservation Trust Fund (CTF).

She/ he will work closely with external experts in conservation finance law and

trust fund establishment in Uganda, and WCS Uganda staff to implement this

project and ensure the Trust fund is established and financed. She/he will be

responsible for the general administration, planning and coordination of

project activities, liaising with Government and civil society partners as well

as with the technical team to build political and financial support within

Uganda for the new CTF She/ he will be guided and supported by a Technical

Advisor who will provide strategic guidance and lead the initial efforts to

create the new CTF. The Project Coordinator will work closely with the

Technical Advisor to recruit a steering committee through which the work will

be undertaken to create the new CTF He/she will ensure that timely

communication with the Steering Committee takes place and that all progress is

documented. The Project Coordinator will also be responsible for all

communication and reporting to the donor agency.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The

    ideal candidate for the Project Coordinator vacancy should hold a Master’s

    degree in Environment, Natural Resources Management, Business

    Administration, and/or Conservation Finance with at least five years of

    project management experience.

  • Past

    experience in working with USAID or other donors is desirable.

  • The

    successful candidate must also demonstrate strong leadership abilities

  • Possess

    excellent communication skills

  • Possess

    the ability to produce high quality reports in English.
