Communication for Healthy

Communities (CHC) is a five- year program implemented through a cooperative

agreement between the United States Agency for International Development

USAID/Uganda) and FHI 360. The program supports the Government of Uganda (GOU)

and US government (USG) implementing partners to design and implement quality

health communication interventions to contribute to reduction in HIV

infections, total fertility, maternal and child mortality, malnutrition,

malaria & tuberculosis.


Job Summary:  The

Family Planning (FP) Coordinator will support the Senior Technical

Advisor-Health Communication (STA-HC) and the Media and Campaign Manager (MCM)

in designing targeted and youth friendly mass media, interpersonal and

community interventions that increase knowledge and uptake of modern

contraceptives among sexually active adolescents and young women. The incumbent

will provide leadership and coordination of various FP implementing partners in

design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and dissemination of campaign

results and support other national FP communication interventions.


Key Duties and

Responsibilities: 

  • The

    incumbent will work closely with various FP implementing partners,

    adolescent girls (15-19) and young women (20-24) to design adolescent and

    youth friendly the FP communication campaign to motivate them to seek

    information and services on teenage pregnancy and sexual reproductive

    health.

  • Actively

    facilitate participatory materials development sessions with adolescent

    girls and young women to ensure that developed interventions address the

    needs and challenges of the above target audiences.

  • Work

    in liaison with partners to develop work plans that link communication interventions

    to service delivery.

  • Work

    in consultation with the STA-HC and MCM to develop targeted mass media,

    inter personal and community mobilization interventions that provide

    knowledge and motivate adolescent and young women to seek information and

    services on teenage pregnancy and sexual reproductive health.

  • Oversee

    the process of rolling-out the FP campaign to target districts.

  • Mentor

    and supervise the FP communication officer in the day-to-day

    implementation and documentation of FP communication activities in target

    districts.

  • Address

    specific reporting requirements for USAID/DFID and represent CHC at

    relevant local and international fora as and when required.

  • Perform

    any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The

    ideal candidate for the USAID FHI360 Family Planning (FP) Coordinator

    vacancy should hold a Master’s degree in Public Health, Health

    Communication or equivalent

  • A

    minimum of five or more years’ experience in FP communication, advocacy

    and community mobilization in Uganda

  • Detailed

    working knowledge of Family Planning programming in Uganda

  • Passion

    for adolescent and young women’s sexual reproductive health issues

  • Past

    experience working with USAID programs and various partners at a national

    and district levels

  • Possess

    the ability to adapt and work in challenging and demanding environments

  • Ability

    to work independently and manage a high volume work flow.
