The African

Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET) is a not for profit, networking alliance

and service organization that brings together field epidemiology training

programs (FETPs) across Africa working side by side with Ministries of Health,

regional and international partners. AFENET works to strengthen epidemiological

and disease surveillance capabilities of African countries that are critical to

meeting the requirements of the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response

(IDSR) strategy and the International Health Regulations (IHR).


Established in

2005, AFENET has supported more than 20 African countries across sub-Saharan

Africa advance their capabilities in early detection and response to infectious

and non-infectious diseases, AFENET is looking to hire capable and qualified

person into the position of an Accountant as put below, to support the smooth

running of the organization’s affairs at the secretariat and also in

collaboration with AFENET partners and member countries.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:


·        
Establish risk-based plans to determine the internal

audit activity’s priorities.


·        
Carry out reviews of assigned organisational and

functional activities.


·        
Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of the

management controls over those activities.


·        
Determine whether organisational units are

performing their planning, accounting custodial, risk management or control

activities in compliance with management instructions, applicable statements of

policy and procedures and in a manner consistent with both organisational

objectives and high standards of administrative practice.


·        
Actively monitor and coordinate the implementation

of the annual plan as approved, including as appropriate any special tasks or

projects requested by management and the finance and audit committee of the

Board.


·        
Draft reports on engagement observations and make

recommendations for correcting unsatisfactory conditions, improving operations

and reducing cost.


·        
Support in the monitoring and coordinating the

implementation of the annual audit plan, as approved; including as appropriate

any special tasks or projects requested by management and the finance and audit

committee.


·        
Update the finance and audit committee informed of

emerging trends and successful practices in internal auditing.


·        
Offer technical support during external audits and

guidance to the Board and Management on implementation of recommendations and

corrective action.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:


·        
The applicant should possess a Bachelor’s degree in

Accounting,


·        
A minimum of four years’ experience in internal

audit.


·        
Past experience with NGOs is added advantage.


·        
A Certified member of ACCA, CPA or CIA.


·        
Possess a strong track record in internal Audit,

fraud investigation and evaluation of systems and procedure.


·        
Detailed working knowledge of practical use of

Financial Accounting software like Navision is added advantage.
