The Clinton

Health Access Initiative (CHAI) is an international health organization committed to

strengthening integrated health systems in the developing world and expanding

access to care and treatment for HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases. CHAI’s

solution-oriented approach focuses on improving market dynamics for medicines

and diagnostics; lowering prices for treatment; accelerating access to

life-saving technologies; and helping governments build the capacity required

for high-quality care and treatment programs. Since its establishment in 2002

by President William J. Clinton, CHAI has worked on the demand and supply sides

of the market to help more than 2 million HIV+ people access the medicines

needed for treatment—representing nearly half of all people and 2 out of 3

children on HIV/AIDS treatment in developing countries. Building on this model,

CHAI has expanded its scope to include efforts to strengthen healthcare

delivery systems and to combat malaria and childhood illnesses.

Job Summary:  The Program Coordinator, Pediatrics HIV will

provide timely strategic and project management support to implement internal

& external projects of the CHAI Uganda pediatrics HIV program. The incumbent

will also build and strengthen working relationships with various teams within

CHAI Uganda, as well as the local Ministry of Health AIDS Control Program (ACP)

and implementing partners. The position will also require field travel to meet

key stakeholders and to interface with the realities on ground to develop

evidence based, pragmatic and sustainable approaches to pediatrics HIV care

& treatment services in Uganda.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

·        
Work in liaison with and provide technical direction

to the MOH/ACP Pediatric ART teams to assist in the programmatic design of new

Pediatric HIV Program initiatives to close the gap between adult and pediatric

ART coverage.

·        
Technically support MOH/ACP assessment visits,

trainings, supervision and mentoring at selected facilities and utilize data

collected to determine the effectiveness of Pediatric HIV care scale up, and

identify any remaining bottlenecks to optimal implementation.

·        
Render support in the operationalization of

assessment visits, trainings, review meetings, and other activities in selected

facilities by planning and budgeting, organizing logistics, liaising with

MOH/ACP and implementing partners (IPs) with overview from the Pediatric HIV

Program Manager.

·        
Significantly contribute to the review of existing

training materials for health workers to ensure effective inclusion of essential

Pediatric HIV and TB topics.

·        
Contribute to the content and design of job aids

designed to assist MOH and NTLP to operationalize guidelines on pediatric HIV

and TB services.

·        
Contribute to program monitoring and evaluation and

assessment of program impact.

·        
Take part in proposal development process for follow

on funds for the Pediatric HIV program, including budgeting and drafting of

proposal components where requested.

·        
Meet all CHAI Uganda internal reporting

requirements.

·        
Actively contribute to the development and design of

CHAI’s pediatric HIV and PMTCT strategy in Uganda and globally, and perform any

other duties as assigned by the Pediatric HIV program manager.

Qualifications, Skills and

Experience: 

·        
The applicant should preferably hold a good Bachelor’s

Degree with a focus on public health, medicine or development related field.

·        
At least five to six years’ experience, public or

private sector: Project management experience, including experience working in

diverse teams, managing budgets, financial reporting & effective work

planning.

·        
Ability to operate independently, multitask, setting

and achieving ambitious targets with limited guidance.

·        
Skills and knowledge in developing planning tools

such as budgets, progress trackers, and work plans.

·        
Excellent written and verbal communication skills

and strong interpersonal capabilities.

·        
Ability to coordinate meetings, to meet deadlines,

to generate data driven reports and work in a fast-paced environment with

maximum efficiency and impact.

·        
Strong analytical skills (quantitative and

qualitative) and relative proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

·        
Working knowledge and/or experience of the health

sector in Uganda in general, are an advantage.

·
