remain connected after their fellowship year finishes, deepening their ability

to enact change through heightened skills and strong partnerships. We currently

place fellows in Burundi, Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, the United States, and

Zambia.


Actions for Community

Development (ACODEV) is a non-governmental organization, registered with the

Uganda Ministry of Internal Affairs under the National NGO Board. Since

formation, ACODEV has worked to empower and transform communities to challenge

social issues, access health, social and other development services. With a

national office in Kampala and a field office for Rwenzori Region based in

Kasese District and coalition partnerships in Northern Uganda and Karamoja

region, ACODEV’s current geographical reach is twenty-eight districts. ACODEV

focuses its work in 5 key areas:

  • Research and Learning: ACODEV initiates, conducts and

    disseminates findings of participatory community studies, research,

    assessments and evaluations on issues pertaining to all its program areas.

  • Raising Awareness: ACODEV raises community awareness and

    enlightenment on issues pertaining to all its program areas for increasing

    demand for services.

  • Capacity Building: ACODEV builds communities’ capacity to

    take self-owned actions and ably utilize and sustain community support

    structures and systems relevant to all its program areas.

  • Advocacy and Community Activism: ACODEV supports effective and

    participatory advocacy and community activism work in all its program

    areas.

  • Networking and Collaboration: ACODEV promotes networking with

    relevant government sectors and other developmental actors in

    strengthening effective implementation and support for all.


Job Summary: The

Fundraising and Communications Fellow will significantly contribute to ACODEV’s

work in fundraising, documentation and communication. This will involve leading

fundraising processes and development communications as well as the production

of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials across all

programs. The fellow will also work closely with the ACODEV-U website manager

to keep the website information and content up to date.  Additionally, the fellow will work with the

Research and M&E teams at ACODEV in order to proactively maintain ACODEV’s

social media platforms.


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Work

    closely with management to finalize a fundraising strategy based on the

    organization’s strategic plan

  • Implement

    a fundraising and resource mobilization strategy for the organization to

    diversify revenue streams and develop mechanisms for effective fundraising

  • Technically

    support the business development of ACODEV’s East Africa Centre for

    Leadership Development-ACLED

  • Manage

    ACODEV’s grant-making process in all program areas, including concept

    development, development of project proposals, grants, and concept notes,

    and identification of potential sources of funding/collaboration

  • Capacity

    building for ACODEV staff and partners in proposal development and resource

    mobilization skills

  • Support

    the documentation of project successes and lessons learned across program

    areas of reproductive and child health, HIV and AIDS and human rights

  • Collect,

    collate and analyze data useful for documenting learning experiences from

    ACODEV programs to be used for ACODEV information materials/publications

  • Coordinate

    editing and production of various documents from workshops, seminars, and

    conferences organized by ACODEV and partners

  • Actively

    facilitate capacity building of ACODEV staff and partners in documentation

  • Take

    part in planning and implementation of ACODEV-U programs

  • Communications:

  • Play

    a role in preparing and disseminating a range of public information

    materials including newsletters, Facebook posts, tweets, blogs, annual

    reports, brochures, flyers, and radio jingles/spot messages

  • Work

    in liaison with the ACODEV website manager to keep the website information

    and content up to date

  • Maintain

    ACODEV’s social media platforms

  • Actively

    facilitate capacity building of ACODEV staff and partners in

    communications


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The

    ideal candidate should hold a Master’s Degree in International

    Development, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or equivalent

    professional work experience in the area of communications

  • At

    least two years’ experience in development communications, with experience

    supporting advocacy efforts

  • Proven

    skills in preparing a range of public information materials including

    newsletters, annual reports, brochures, flyers, radio jingles/spot

    messages and website content

  • Originality,

    innovation and creativity in design and packaging of information for

    communications

  • Creativity

    in concept development and fundraising proposal writing

  • Ability

    to collect, collate and analyze data to document learning experiences/best

    practices and write reports

  • Good

    computer skills, especially in website management and desktop publishing

  • Possess

    the ability to work calmly under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Willingness

    to travel and document program work

  • Ability

    to demonstrate initiative

  • Willingness

    to work occasional evenings and weekends as may be required

  • Sympathetic

    to the aims of ACODEV

  • Reliable,

    self-motivated and flexible; able to respond to new opportunities

  • Possess

    the ability to work in a team and form productive, supportive &

    professional relationships with all staff at ACODEV

  • Excellent

    facilitation/training skills


Job Terms and Conditions: Fellows

will be provided with housing, health insurance and a living stipend of

$550/month. Additionally, fellows will receive an award of $1500 upon

successful completion of the fellowship year. Flights to and from the placement

site and all other costs associated with GHC programming are included,

including $600 in professional development funds. Housing will be arranged in

Kasese.


Note: The living

stipend and completion award may be paid out in USD or local currency, as

determined by the placement organization.
