Global Health Corps pairs intelligent and passionate fellows with

organizations that require new thinking and innovative solutions. We provide

these young leaders with the tools to remain connected after their fellowship

year finishes, deepening their ability to enact change through heightened

skills and strong partnerships. We currently place fellows in Burundi, Malawi,

Rwanda, Uganda, the United States, and Zambia.


Set Her Free (SHF) is a non-profit organization working to restore the

lives of young girls that were victims of sexual exploitation. We currently run

2 homes in the Kawempe and Nakawa Divisions of Kampala, Uganda. At these homes,

we provide food, shelter, formal education, vocational skills training,

counselling, and medical care to young women. SHF provides temporary

accommodation and resettlement assistance for girls who do not have safe places

to go at night, and provides services for the girls at the centre during the

day. SHF provides an open and non-judgmental community that supports girls in

reaching their full potential.


Job Summary: The Program

Manager will support SHF’s management team to develop, improve and expand SHF’s

programming and expand SHF’s impact on the girls we serve and the communities

where we work. The incumbent will participate in the planning, implementation

and evaluation of SHF’s programs. A significant portion of this role will

involve working with SHF’s largely volunteer staff, many of whom are young

women who were beneficiaries of the program.


Key Duties and

Responsibilities: 

  • Manage the planning and implementation of

    multiple projects and serve as a point of contact for donors and field

    staff

  • Develop activity-based project budgets,

    monthly and quarterly financial reports and new funding requests

  • Assist in building staff capacity by

    identifying roles for project team members, developing reporting

    structures, setting project meetings, developing work-tracking tools, and

    providing skills training as needed

  • Build and direct project teams to meet

    project objectives

  • Provide input into staff performance

    evaluations

  • Ensure project activities comply with the

    policies and regulations of funding organizations

  • Send activity reports, meeting minutes and

    financial reports on a regular basis to donors

  • Ensures close collaboration and

    coordination with partners to guarantee smooth implementation of

    activities and achievement of results as specified in grant agreements


Qualifications, Skills and

Experience: 

  • The GHC fellow should have significant

    experience managing or coaching teams and individuals

  • Past experience working with youth and

    women groups

  • Computer literacy skills including use of

    Microsoft Office suite

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to

    work well with on diverse teams

  • Very strong communication skills, both

    verbal & written

  • Possess the ability to undertake regular

    field visits and interact with different stakeholders

  • Proven ability to give clear and

    consistent instructions to volunteers

  • Demonstrated ability to develop, lead,

    motivate and supervise working groups of volunteers

  • Proven problem solving and decision-making

    skills


Job Terms and Conditions:

Fellows will be provided with housing, health insurance and a living stipend of

$550/month. Additionally, fellows will receive an award of $1500 upon

successful completion of the fellowship year. Flights to and from the placement

site and all other costs associated with GHC programming are included,

including $600 in professional development funds. Fellows will live in Set Her

Free guest housing near the Set Her Free offices.


Note: The living stipend and

completion award may be paid out in USD or local currency, as determined by the

placement organization.
