The Refugee Law

Project (RLP) is an outreach project of the School of Law, Makerere University.

Our Mission is to empower asylum seekers, refugees, deportees, IDPs and host communities

to enjoy their human rights and lead dignified lives.


Job Summary: The Grants

Officer will be providing administrative support for all grants sourcing teams

and processes which include: preparing grant proposals and reports for

submission; working across RLP programmes to coordinate, update all funding

status; maintaining the grants calendar to ensure compliance and all deadlines

are met; draft progress reports; and prospect research.


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 


·        
Identify possible funders in line with the mandate

and strategic plan of Refugee Law Project.


·        
Guide on appropriate funding mix and alternatives on

a continual basis.


·        
Carry out targeted research and advise on shifts of

funding priorities as necessary.


·        
Develop and maintain a well detailed database of

donors with a specific donor requirement and track compliance accordingly.


·        
Ensure RLP enjoys positive reputation with donors

through clear, timely, proactive and reactive communication as necessary.


·        
Ensure that all sub-grantees have good reputation

and can deliver as per donor demands.


·        
Ensure that sub-grantee payments are prepared on

time to facilitate timely activity implementation.


·        
Take part in conducting sub-grantee pre-awards assessments.


·        
Organize meetings to formulate MoUs between the RLP

and sub-grantee organizations.


·        
Work closely with sub-grantees on timely reporting

to ensure early disbursement of funds.


·        
Ensure that end of project audits are conducted and

final audit reports are received by the donors.


·        
Arrange the schedules of the fundraising team


·        
Actively participate in high-quality

interdisciplinary proposals for funding in conjunction with relevant team and

staff.


·        
Prepare application call summaries for the

fundraising team.


·        
Recommend funding sources and specific calls to

fundraising team for preliminary consideration.


·        
Ensure that proposals are completed, reviewed and

submitted before the donor deadlines


·        
Provide specific guidance, training and

clarification on reporting policies to Unit and Programme Managers


·        
Double check reports to donors for compliance with

the requirements before sending.


·        
Actively participate in sharing and planning

meetings to discuss and address issues related to grants implementation.


·        
Work on all administrative aspects of the role to a

timely and accurate standard.


Qualifications, Skills and

Experience: 


·        
The applicant should preferably hold a degree in any

of the following; International Development, Development Studies, Economics,

Social Sciences, Business Administration


·        
Possession of a relevant certificate will be an

added advantage


·        
Three years’ experience in providing specific grants

management support.


·        
Prior experience in resourcing and fundraising work

preferably in a civil Society context.


·        
Broad knowledge and understanding of monitoring and

evaluation technologies, ideally Results Based Management (RBM)


·        
Ability to give timely reports on activities

undertaken


·        
Ability to work under pressure with minimum

supervision


·        
Highly creative and innovative skills


·        
Ability to think and write conceptually,

convincingly and strategically


·        
Excellent interpersonal skills and high level of

self-motivation


·        
Excellent communication skills both written and

verbal, experience in writing and documentation of meetings and workshops,

guides and technical material


·        
Advanced computer skills, particularly MS Office (MS

Word, Excel and Powerpoint)


·        
Good touch typing skills of at least 30 Words Per

Minute
