Medical Clinical Officer (3 Job Opportunities) – Kampala – Infectious Diseases Institute


About US:
The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is an international non-profit organization which is a partnership of infectious diseases and public health specialists. The overall objective of the IDI is to strengthen health systems with strong emphasis on Infectious Diseases, through Research and Capacity Development. IDI has five operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory services (provided through a partnership with the Makerere University – John Hopkins University Core Lab) and Outreach.


IDI, in partnership with its funders and other stakeholders has received funding to roll out a new pilot project aimed at scaling up pediatric and Adolescent HIV care in the three districts of Kampala, Hoima and Kibaale over a two year period. It is hoped that this will in turn help close the pediatric Antiretroviral Therapy gap and improve HIV services for pediatric and adolescent clients.


Job Summary: The Medical Clinical Officer will offer technical support to Health Care Workers (HCWs) at supported Health Facilities (HFs) in comprehensive pediatric and adolescent HIV care, treatment and support.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· Offer technical support and mentorship for HCWs on pediatric and adolescent HIV/AIDS care, treatment and support.
· The incumbent will support strengthening of quality improvement HIV/AIDS activities at supported facilities.
· The incumbent will support HCT for pregnant and lactating mothers at all entry points to aid early identification and enrollment into care for exposed infants.
· Support Continuous Professional Development programs for staff at supported health facilities.
· Coordinate health education talks on pediatric and adolescent HIV/AIDS with focus on identification, linkage and retention in care.
· Support referral and linkages to HIV care for pediatric and adolescent clients.
· Works in liaison with the data team, provide ongoing mentorship in all areas including HMIS reporting for related MoH reports and specific indicators.
· Prepare and submit monthly performance/progress reports and other reports as required.
· Work as a full member of the health care team and attend to any other duties as may reasonably be assigned from time to time.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
· The applicant should preferably hold a Diploma in Clinical Medicine from a recognized institution
· Possession of a Certificate in HIV/AIDS management
· The applicant must be registered with the Allied Health Practitioners Council with a valid APL. A minimum of two to three years’ experience in a clinical HIV/AIDS setting.
· Significant experience in clinical care of infants/children and adolescents.
· Prior experience working with both government and private health facilities.
· Ability to interact productively and work in a team environment
· Self-motivated, innovative and ability to work in a busy setting with strict deadlines.
· Excellent interpersonal skills
· Excellent oral and written communication skills.
· Willingness to be part of a mobile clinical team providing care services at selected HFs and outreaches
