The Infectious

Diseases Institute (IDI) is an international non-profit organization which is a

partnership of infectious diseases and public health specialists. The overall

objective of the IDI is to strengthen health systems with strong emphasis on

Infectious Diseases, through Research and Capacity Development. IDI has five

operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: Prevention,

Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory services (provided

through a partnership with the Makerere University – John Hopkins University

Core Lab) and Outreach.


The East, Central

and Southern Africa College of Physicians (ECSACOP) is a new Institution with a

mission: to improve standards of healthcare throughout the region by providing

specialist training for physicians committed to life-long learning. ECSACOP

plans to establish a network of training centres, focusing on increasing

training opportunities outside major urban centres, and to implement an

internationally recognised postgraduate medical qualification. ECSACOP’s

formative stages are overseen by a regional Foundation Committee and it is

supported by the national associations of physicians of six African countries

and by the Royal College of Physicians, UK. ECSACOP is in the final stages of

establishing a business development unit that will spearhead the acquisition of

resources to meet its objectives.


Job Summary: The Strategic

Sustainability Manager will be responsible for all aspects of the ECSACOP

Business Development Unit located at the IDI.


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 


·        
In charge of drawing the annual ECSACOP business

development work plans (including targets and timelines) consistent with the

ECSACOP mission for approval by the ECSACOP foundation committee and IDI

mentors.


·        
Working closely with ECSACOP members and

stakeholders and potential partners and conducting research to identify trends

and opportunities for strategic partnerships


·        
Responsible for identifying promising funding

opportunities (including calls for proposals ) in a systematic manner and

leading the ECSACOP response to such opportunities, including drafting the main

proposal text and creating the budgets when necessary, and ensuring that all

administrative requirements are met.


·        
Ensuring consistency and quality of messages to

actual and potential partners through creation of communication and promotional

tools such as newsletters, web-site content and an annual report either

directly or through other ECSACOP functions.


·        
The incumbent will be developing standard ECSACOP

proposal material and ensure that all common eligibility criteria are consistently

monitored and met.


·        
In charge of developing a system for proposal

coordination across the proposal cycle including selection of suitable

opportunities, development and quality& validity control of content from

multiple sources, through to submission


·        
The incumbent will be managing the creation of

ECSACOP grants management systems including manuals, filing/ information

management systems etc and systems and controls to manage grants throughout the

grants cycle.


·        
The job holder will also be rnsuring that adequate

systems and control are in place to deliver funders’ financial and programmatic

requirements for successful grants throughout the grants cycle; regularly track

and report the funder- defined milestones / deliverables.


·        
In charge of all reporting to the IDI and ECSACOP

leads for this capacity building project.


·        
Perform any other duties specified by the foundation

committee, and subsequently council or executive board, of ECSACOP.


Qualifications, Skills and

Experience: 


·        
The ideal candidate for the Strategic Sustainability

Manager should hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Finance,

Business, Commerce or its equivalent.


·        
Possession of a Master’s degree in a similar

relevant field or experience in lieu of.


·        
At least five years’ experience in identifying and

evaluating potential partner relationships and in grant acquisition and

management, preferably in the health care field;


·        
Previous experience in establishing and growing a

team.


·        
Previous experience in budget preparation processes.


·        
Prior exposure and experience in project planning

and management.


·        
Excellent written and oral communication skills


·        
Ability to conceptualize multiple key ECSACOP

objectives and translate them into compelling fundable concepts.


·        
High proficiency in the use of office computers and

spreadsheets.


·        
Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to

interact at the most senior corporate, donor and academic levels.


·        
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
