Reports to: Chief Underwriting Officer


The

African Trade Insurance Agency (ATI) is a multi-lateral established by African

States with the support from the World Bank and the African Development Bank.

ATI provides insurance, co-insurance, reinsurance and other financial services

to foster trade and investments in its African Member States for the purposes

of promoting trade, investment and other productive activities in Africa.


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • The incumbent will develop and implement

    policies and procedures for investigating, evaluating and managing risks

    and settlement of claims. Propose improvements in the underwriting

    guidelines based on claims and other experiences.

  • Offer technical support to the underwriting

    and accounts departments in all phases of claims handling and loss

    prevention.

  • Update and maintain records and to provide

    file management of claims paid in conjunction with accounts department.

  • Provide analytical, and technical support to

    the CFO in the coordination of insurance policies, loss prevention

    reporting and claims management.

  • Put in place a system for managing individual

    and portfolio exposures.

  • In charge of the identification and

    mitigation of risks and bad debts including advising the Agency on the

    acceptance of liability for claims.

  • Measure financial impact of claims and

    recommend appropriate actions to avoid, retain or transfer the risk.

  • Periodic assessment of underwritten risks.

  • Provide analytical and technical support on

    all claims, and determining their accuracy.

  • Forecasting of prepayments, delinquencies,

    and defaults.

  • Project and calculate expected losses for

    setting loss reserves.

  • Carry out baseline analysis of risk exposures

    and insurance coverage.

  • In charge of tracking and monitoring

    Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) schedules.

  • Responsible for designing and maintaining

    loss reports and monitor claim trends.

  • Organizing the debt collection processes (pre

    and post claim).

  • Actively collect once an overdue report has

    been received.

  • Select and manage debt collection agencies.

  • Communicate with clients, obligors, banks and

    all other interested parties in claim processing and prevention.

  • Keenly review and negotiate changes in policy

    wording.

  • Prepare specifications for improvements of

    the underwriting system related to the above.

  • Organize the filing for over-dues and claims.

  • Manage the library of clauses and accepted

    changes to the policy wording.

  • Assess the impact of the changes in law

    applicable in policies and other contractual documents related to

    underwriting.

  • Guide on other legal and contractual

    documents used in underwriting.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate should preferably hold a

    University degree in Insurance, Finance, Banking, Law plus a professional

    qualification in Insurance.

  • Possession of a Master’s Degree in a related

    field

  • At least five years’ experience in Risk

    Management.

  • Three years’ experience in insurance claims

    management.

  • Extensive experience with legal documents

    used in the  insurance  and banking industry.

  • Extensive experience with common  and commercial law.

  • Previous experience with debt collection and

    claims management.

  • Expert knowledge of credit bureau data and

    products.

  • Exceptional analytical skills.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation

    skills.

  • Competence in English both orally and written

    is a prerequisite. Knowledge of 

    French is added advantage.

  • Ability to provide financial and insurance

    accounting support.

  • Willingness to travel.
