The Refugee Law

Project (RLP) is an outreach project of the School of Law, Makerere University.

Our Mission is to empower asylum seekers, refugees, deportees, IDPs and host

communities to enjoy their human rights and lead dignified lives.


Job Summary: The Grants

Assistant will provide administrative support for all grants sourcing teams and

processes which include: preparing grant proposals and reports for submission;

working across RLP programmes to coordinate, compile and update all

programmatic data; maintaining the grants calendar to ensure compliance and all

deadlines are met; draft progress reports; and prospect research.


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 


·        
Render support in identifying possible funders as

per RLP’s mandate


·        
In charge of developing and maintaining a well

detailed data base of donors with a specific donor requirement and track

compliance accordingly.


·        
Offer technical guidance and support in ensuring

that RLP enjoys positive reputation with Donors through clear, timely,

proactive and reactive communication as necessary.


·        
Responsible for conducting sub-grantee pre-awards

assessments.


·        
In charge of organizing meetings to formulate MoUs

between the RLP and sub-grantee organizations.


·        
Assist in liaison with sub-grantees on timely

reporting to ensure early disbursement of funds.


·        
In charge of ensuring that end of project audits are

conducted and final audit reports are received by the donors.


·        
Assist in arranging schedules of the fundraising

team


·        
Render support in preparing high-quality

interdisciplinary proposals for funding in conjunction with relevant team and

staff.


·        
Responsible for preparing application call summaries

for the fundraising team.


·        
Supports the Grants Officer in ensuring that

proposals are completed, reviewed and submitted before the donor deadlines


·        
Assist in providing specific guidance, training and

clarification on reporting policies to Unit and Programme Managers


·        
Assist in sharing and planning meetings to discuss

and address issues related to grants implementation.


·        
Responsible for maintaining the grant office – file

grant proposals, applications, research.


Qualifications, Skills and

Experience: 


·        
The applicant should preferably hold a bachelor’s degree

in any of the following; Development Studies, Economics, Social Sciences,

Business Administration.


·        
Possession of any relevant certificates will be an

added advantage


·        
A minimum of three years’ experience in providing

specific grants management support.


·        
Previous exposure and experience in resourcing and

fundraising work preferably in a civil Society context.


·        
Ability to give timely reports on activities undertaken


·        
Ability to work under pressure with minimum

supervision


·        
Creative and innovative skills


·        
Ability to think and write conceptually,

convincingly and strategically


·        
Excellent interpersonal skills and high level of

self-motivation


·        
Excellent communication skills both written and

verbal, experience in writing and documentation of meetings an4d workshops,

guides and technical material


·        
Advanced computer skills, particularly MS Office (MS

Word, Excel and Powerpoint)


·        
Experience in minute taking.


·        
Well-organised, resourceful with good planning and

problem-solving abilities


·        
Good touch typing skills of at least 30 Words Per

Minute
