Empower

a Child is an international not-for-profit faith-based organization operating

in East Africa with headquarters in the United States of America. Our focus is to empower lives of

people in Uganda and Kenya to overcome poverty through education, vocational

training and entrepreneurship, character, spiritual and health development.


Job Summary: The Program Coordinator will train Zirobwe women

financial and business skills and oversee their projects in a loving, Christian

manner, and with a clear vision for the future. The incumbent will mentor and train

women in other valuable skills and knowledge, including but not limited to

health and wellness, Christ centered bible study, Christian mentoring, and ESL

(English as a Second Language). The jobholder will receive and process USA

craft orders and endure that they are consulted and informed on ongoing   progress.


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 


1. Mentor and train

project beneficiaries in a way that facilitates a high performance classless

culture of learning and development, trust and integrity

  • Seek understanding with and unified

    leadership alongside the women leadership team

  • Provide Christian leadership to the women and

    to the community

  • Provide a good example of good stewardship

    with time, resources and privilege for the staff, employees, and women’s

    groups

  • Serve as an active advocate for the Women

    Empowerment Project, promoting the vision, mission and goals of the

    organization amongst the community at all times to ensure the organization

    maintains a positive public standing

  • Create a contract of service for the women

    entering the program with a clear set of expectations and a timeline for

    transition and exit plan

  • Create local marketing strategies for the

    program products and grow it to client base to support a 10-30 million

    shillings /year business turn over in the next 2 years.

  • Teach the women about household budgets and

    teach them how to manage household expenses, including education, health

    care, and wellness issues

  • Create in-house sustainable business programs

    where the women can work together to earn wages and save, money to

    re-invest as they so choose.

  • Manage local databases for the program, enter

    data into the database, including but not limited to USA craft Orders,

    attendance and local sale for farming and sewing group.

  • Create and organize written records of all

    programming

  • Communicate regularly with the local program

    supervisor regarding on orders, output, planning, programs, and women in

    need of additional support both verbally and through written reports

  • Generate empowerment reports as requested and

    them to supervisor

  • Assist with other empower a child Programs as

    needed giving first priority to the Women Empowerment

  • Meet with women’s groups regularly to

    maintain strong and healthy relationships within the communities the Women

    Empowerment Project runs and actively seek needs and opportunities for

    empowerment, ministry and wellness programming

  • Research and provide information to the

    women’s groups about resources available for rural  women living in Uganda


3. Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Plan and coordinate 4 annual M&E

    activities

  • Assist in inputting data into M&E

    database as needed


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicant should hold a Bachelor’s degree

    in Business, or related fields

  • A minimum of three years’ experience in a

    similar position serving  low income

    earners

  • One year of experience managing a team.

  • Previous exposure and experience serving low

    income communities or demonstrated interest in issues affecting low income

    communities.

  • Training in micro-finance or ability to

    independently get extra training in Micro- finance 

  • Previous experience working in a

    cross-cultural development context (ideally within an African nation)

    including management of people and resources desired

  • Strong knowledge of computer software

    (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and conferencing

  • Professional experience in statistics and

    Excel data management and manipulation is desired

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and

    written.

  • Excellent organizational skills and the

    ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Proven ability to work individually in a

    self-directed manner and as part of a team, coordinating efforts with

    program staff and other development staff.

  • Demonstrated planning, program development

    and problem-solving skills.

  • Knowledge of local community services and

    resources available for enterprising women

  • Keen eye for detail

  • Ready to relocate to Zirobwe Luwero
