Corps is an International NGO that exists to alleviate poverty and oppression

by helping people build secure, productive and just communities. Mercy Corps

has been fully registered in Uganda as an operational NGO. Currently Mercy

Corps has an office in Kampala and is implementing Food Security programs which

comprise of Water and Sanitation, Livelihood and Agriculture and Conflict

Mitigation Management Program in North and North Eastern Uganda. 
We implement programs in the northern

districts of Pader, Kitgum, Agago, Lamwo, Kaabong, Abim and Kotido with funding

from USAID, USDA, Walmart Foundation, SDC, DFID as well as other private

donations.


Job Summary: The

Monitoring & Evaluation Officer will serve as the focal point for all

design, monitoring, and evaluation activities in his or her respective Region

and ii) monitoring and evaluation summary reports and statistics


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support

    program staff develop a monitoring and evaluation tools

  • Carry

    out surveys and assist in monitoring activities that help evaluate program

    success.

  • Manage

    program data; including information that is collected by programs, this

    will include database support and design.

  • Map

    program activities for use in program planning, implementation, and

    evaluation

  • Prepare

    and submit regular reports and summary information to the M&E Manager

    and Program Director.

  • Actively

    participate in other monitoring and evaluation activities including field

    visits,

  • Be

    fully familiar with the projects’ proposals particularly the goals, objectives,

    PMP, and expected results

  • Visit

    the projects areas in Karamoja work closely with the consortium’s M&E

    officers to harmonize methodologies and data requirement.

  • Design

    monitoring & Evaluation package where necessary and generate

    monitoring report on qualitative and quantitative progress of projects in

    Karamoja.

  • Enter

    monitoring data into computer-based data collection system according to

    schedule, and or supervise the process.

  • Work

    closely with the program staff, track that program-based monitoring

    activities are being performed according to schedule and provide timely

    reports and data summaries.

  • Ensure

    all program indicators are being met and properly recorded.

  • Take

    the lead to ensure that program staffs can undertake independent

    monitoring.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The

    ideal candidates for the Monitoring & Evaluation Officer should

    preferably hold bachelor’s degree in Social Science or Social Studies or

    any relevant discipline.

  • At

    least two years’ work experience in M&E related field.

  • One

    year experience working on the computer in Microsoft Office applications

    including Excel and skills in other programs, such as Access or

    statistical packages is required.

  • Strong

    knowledge of M& tools and methodologies.

  • Fluent

    communication skills in English – both written and oral is required

  • Possess

    excellent analytical and report writing skills

  • Ability

    to work independently, if and when required and be able to come up with

    creative ideas to resolve monitoring & Evaluation-related problems.

  • Excellent

    skills using the computer keyboard (numbers and letters).

  • Keen

    attention to detail and patience to double check data entry is essential.

  • Good

    basic math skills are essential and general knowledge of statistical

    principles is preferred.

  • Comfort

    and ability to talk to and interview people in a respectful manner while

    professionally representing Mercy Corps is essential

  • Good

    understanding of the local language in Karamoja
