The International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) seeks to hire a National Project Coordinator based at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, who will be a member of ICARDA-Ethiopia team.
The International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) is an international autonomous, non-profit, research organization temporarily based in Beirut, Lebanon supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). Key Responsibilities:
The National Project Coordinator is expected to coordinate the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) funded ‘small ruminant value chain project to be implemented in five regions Amhara (Menz and Abergelle), Oromia (Borana and Horro), Tigrai (Atsbi and Abergelle), South (Doyogena) Somali (Shinile) of Ethiopia.
Over all coordination (both technical and financial) of IFAD funded project on small ruminant value chain to be implemented in five regions Amhara (Menz and Abergelle), Oromia (Borana and Horro), Tigrai (Atsbi and Abergelle) South (Doyogena) Somali (Shinile) of Ethiopia;
Planning and implementing research activities according to annual Livestock and Fish program plan of work and budget;
Actively contributes to the development of business models to improve sheep and goat Value Chain performance;
Initiates and supports producers’ collective action for input and service supply and marketing and innovation platforms at district level;
Reports writing, publication of flyers, scientific articles in peer reviewed journals and manuals;
Training of farmers, researchers and extension personnel;
Organizing field days and workshops related to the project;
Liaises between ICARDA scientists and partners with regards to the implementation of the project;
Provides back stopping to National Agriculture Research Systems (NARS)
Supervises graduate students.
Minimum Requirement:
Education:
PhD in Agricultural Economics, Animal Science or related fields
Experience:
At least five years of relevant experience
Skills:
On-farm research on technology generation and validations; data collections, analyses, interpretations and publications;
Statistical software applications and skills in computer applications;
Training of farmers, researchers and extension personnel.
Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia with frequent travel to research sites.
Grade: 3B
Minimum Base: Birr 34,128 (Negotiable, depending on experience, skill and salary history of the candidate)
Terms of appointment: This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position, initial appointment is fixed term for three years with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and the availability of funding. The ILRI remuneration package for nationally recruited staff in Ethiopia includes very competitive salary and benefits such as life and medical insurance, offshore pension plan, etc.
