War Child Canada takes an active role in raising public awareness around the impact of war on communities and the shared responsibility to act. When war itself ends, the consequences endure. A lack of employment opportunities, the absence of effective economic or social structures, an under-educated population and a culture of impunity around rights violations combine to create conditions that make a return to conflict all too possible. But by making a long-term investment to create an environment in which childhood can thrive, the cycle of violence can be broken. War Child Canada is a registered Canadian charity based in Toronto and currently works in Afghanistan, Sudan, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone and Uganda.War Child Canada has been implementing Access to Justice and Protection Programs for Women and Child Survivors throughout Northern Uganda for the past nine years. This program is extending to the refugee settlements in the West Nile region and Western Uganda. WCC seeks to increase the legal protections of children, youth, women and men and address the prevalence of perpetrators’ impunity through legal intervention, awareness raising and capacity building. Our new programs will expand to include Education and Peace building/Youth Engagement interventions.Job Summary: The Legal Assistant will be responsible for supporting the smooth running of the daily activities of War Child Canada's Legal Aid Clinic, including client management and follow up, facilitation of alternative dispute resolution and to contribute to awareness raising activities and legal trainings.Key Duties and Responsibilities: Receiving interviewing, registering, and maintaining proper filling system for clientsConducting any other legal action relevant to a specific caseOffering referral and counseling advice to clients including field visits for follow upActively promoting legal and human rights awareness within targeted communitiesCarry out and radio legal panel discussions on relevant legal issuesPerforming any other duties as assigned by the supervisorQualifications, Skills and Experience: The applicant should hold a Diploma in law (degree in law is an added advantage)Possess at least two years working experience in a related fieldPossess the ability to fluently speak local languageProfound knowledge on child protection, SGBV and the general legal system of UgandaProficiency in Computer packages such as (MS word Excel Power point and Data base)Possess the ability/willingness to learn to ride a motor cycle.The candidate should send an updated and Detailed C V, Cover Letter: Applicants should indicate clearly daytime telephone contact and email address, copies of certificates (both professional or vocational) and contact information of at least three professional refereesThe complete applications can be sent via E-mail to: War Child Canada, Uganda at jobs.warchild.ca@gmail.comP.
