Job Summary: The Manager, Operations is responsible for developing, supporting and promoting an environment of a high level performing debt collection unit.Key Duties and Responsibilities:  Achievement of income and cost targetsTeam supervision, mentoring and performance managementIn charge of Collection & Recovery StrategyOperational and legal risk management and controlPortfolio retention and expansionManagement Information(MI) reporting, trend analysis and projections Responsible for the development and implementation of appropriate process flows Client relationship management Provide professional and effective services to internal and external customers / clients, to meet customer expectations, particularly in terms of quality and timelines in line with departmental standards, procedures and guidelines. Communicate courteously with internal and external clients by telephone, email or face to face, building positive relationships, investigating, responding to and progressing issues and queries to successive conclusion at the earliest time possible. Speak positively and enthusiastically about the company and its products and services to ensure that a professional company and brand image is provided at all times to customers, clients and colleagues. Perform any other duties as the management may from time to time reasonably require. Qualifications, Skills and Experience:   The applicant should preferably hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Economics, Business Administration, or Commerce. Additional qualifications in Banking or Credit are an added advantage. At least five years working experience at managerial level in the financial services industry preferably in a credit administration department, debt collection or branch operations Good negotiation skills with ability to assess issues and be assertive / firm with clients as required. Supervisory and interpersonal skills Excellent communication skills, telephone manners and techniques Good general administration, planning, organizing and time management skills. Highly tenacious, with ability to work autonomously and take responsibility.Possess the ability to understand terms and conditions of contracts, to analyze slow moving accounts and outline a collection strategy to resolve each case. Ability to collate and present information and work with people.Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel to analyze data is essential and mandatory. Job Summary: The Debt Collection Officer is responsible for meeting targets for cash collection from debtors and giving support to the management of the debt portfolio.     Key Duties and Responsibilities:  Responsible for chasing outsourced debts and meeting collection targets in order to maintain a positive cash flow.Perform skip tracing activities involving looking for debtors whose whereabouts are unknown. Generate client statements and Demand Letters and manage the escalation process periodically reviewing its effectiveness.Allocate payments to respective debt accounts so that debtor information and balances are kept accurate.Offer technical support in the management of the debt portfolio and to ensure that the portfolio is accurate and up-to-date. To develop, design and review collection analysis and risk management processes and tools, and offer guidance and mentorship to Departmental and Field staff in line with the company’s Uganda’s lending policies and procedures. • To design and ensure implementation of strategies and action plans for recovery of delinquent loans, delinquency tracking tool and transform the required actions into standard policies and procedures in line with the company’s Uganda’s policies and procedures • To develop and implement Collection processes, policies and procedures according to the company’s Uganda Strategic Plan. • To train, guide and mentor field personnel on credit assessment, loan monitoring and collections activities, and assess performance targets in line with the company’s Uganda’s policies and procedures. • To follow up with Regional debt collectors on monthly collections and evaluate their performance. • Ensure that all receipts are posted into the MIS on a timely and accurate basis. • Ensure all loan deals are captured accurately and completely. • Prepare, submit and present, on a monthly basis, Departmental performance Reports on the Collections efficiencies and actions to further improve performance. • Oversee reporting and analysis of collections data relative to decision-making based upon mitigating loss, delinquency, bad debt, age of receivables, Business and customer value. • Maintain high quality and achieving measurable goals. • Register improved loan book performance. • Achieve lower bad debt write offs attributable to poor credit decisions and poor collection techniques and strategies, and higher customer retention attributable to the use of best consumer and business credit and collections practices. • Full knowledge of backend system rules and processes and the use of those tools to fully implement the collection strategy and maintain workflow for staff. • Develop and mentor direct reports. • Act as liaison between Credit and Collections Department, and other Departments within the company to resolve escalated issues and to enhance cross functional policies and procedures to ensure the best possible service to customers. • Manage relationships with; Collection Agencies, Credit and Collections based tools, Industry Associations, among others, to meet all Company Goals. Qualified candidates for this position will possess: A Bachelors Degree in Business Management, Finance, Mathematics or equivalent with experience of 4 to 6 years of large teams with varying tasks and levels of complexity and experience. • 3 to 5 years’ experience in running a Credit and Collections Department preferably in the Commercial Banking /Financial Industry environment in Uganda, with a proven track record and results. • Experience in International Report consolidation and reporting skills. • Desired Professional Qualifications: Accounting/Financial Management. • Experience in the Financial Services industry with particular focus on credit lending and management. • Accurate, dependable, a Team player who is driven by achieving results and delivering Shareholders expectations. • Above average problem solving and analytical skills. • Excellent communication and presentation skills. • Ability to nurture, grow and develop strong & beneficial business relationships across all levels. • Ability to travel extensively within Uganda and globally.
