( Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI), Uganda)

The mission of the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is to build capacity of health systems in Africa for the delivery of sustainable, high quality care and prevention of HIV/AIDS and related infectious diseases through training, research, and advanced clinical services. IDI has four operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment: Training, Research; and Laboratory services (provided through a partnership with the Makerere University- John Hopkins University Core Lab).

IDI received a 5-year grant starting October 2010 for implementation of activities funded through the United States Centres for Disease Control under a Cooperative Agreement for Scaling up the capacity of KCCA to manage Comprehensive HIV/AIDS Services in Kampala Capital City Health Facilities.

This project facilitates collaboration between the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) and KCCA health facilities to build capacity of the health systems to enable them scale up HIV/ AIDS services

Job Summary:

The person in this position will be accountable for the following:Designing a data management system for the projectActing as liaison between the IDI-KCCA project and MOH resource centre.Designing paper-based and electronic data collection tools where necessary.Working with project partners to develop protocols and guidelines on health information managementProvide support to ensure quality of data collectedSupervise and train all health staff on how to collect and manage dataSpearhead collection and compilation of complete, accurate and consistent dataProduce reports as required Manage a team of Data officers and clerks.Requirement:Educational Requirements and Experience:Bachelors Degree in Statistics, Computer Science or related field with a computing bias At least 3 years progressive experience in data management and systems development, especially in HIV/ AIDS sector.Related database management knowledge and practical use of SQL Server, ACCESS and Oracle Strong computer skills; knowledge of computer programs used for data capture, retrieval and analysis, preferably STATA, SPSS or EPI-Data.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:Attention to detail, especially regarding data accuracyTeam player and management skills.Good communication skills.Good understanding of management information systems in the health sectorStrong computer skills; knowledge of the range of computer programs normally used for data capture and retrievalExcellent writing, analytical and oral presentation skillsPreference will be given to candidates with experience in an NGO setting and a health care setting.COMPENSATION:
