Uganda: WASH in Emergency Specialist - P3
CANADEM is seeking interested Canadian citizens or permanent residents with previous relevant experience available for an immediate deployment to Uganda as a seconded expert with UNICEF for a 3-months contract.
Since the mid of December 2013, Uganda has received more than 224,420 South Sudanese refugees, of whom 86% are women and children. The number of new arrivals in West Nile has increased sharply in 2016 to over 150-400 persons per day from on average 70 persons per day in 2015. The influxes continue at two main entry points: Arua and Adjumani.
UNICEF is continuing focus on providing immediate humanitarian support in the form of access to clean water, sanitation and safe hygiene promotions activities. This support will be provided in transit centers and settlement sites in Arua, Adjumani, and Kyriandongo districts in northern Uganda.
UNICEF Uganda is seeking a WASH in Emergency Specialist to undertake the following activities:
- WASH Coordination with the District Government, UNHCR, WASH stakeholders.
- Conduct WASH situation assessments.
- Monitoring and Supervision of on-going WASH activities through PCA framed for implementing partners and institutional private sector partners.
- Pre-positioning and managing of WASH Emergency supplies.
- Prepare Emergency Preparedness Planfor Cholera Response.
Qualifications:
Education: Engineering Degree or Public Health Degree related with water and sanitation activities.
Work Experience:
Should have minimum 5 years of experience in the relevant areas of water, sanitation and hygiene, water quality, public health, environmental health.
Should have experience with design, construction and supervision of water supply including boreholes and piped water systems.
Language: Excellent English (written and oral) necessary.

Other skills: **Ability to travel and live in stressful and hardship condition and familiarity with the culture and settlement patterns of the refugee settlement area
