Global Health Corps pairs intelligent and

heightened skills and strong partnerships. We currently place fellows in

Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, the United States, and Zambia.


The Ministry of Health (MoH) Uganda is the

government body charged with: policy formulation and policy dialogue with

health development partners; resource mobilization and budgeting; strategic

planning; regulation and advising other ministries on health matters; setting

standards and quality assurance; capacity development and technical support;

provision of nationally coordinated services, such as epidemic control;

coordination of health research; and monitoring and evaluation of the overall

sector performance. MoH is committed to provide the highest possible level of

health services to all people in Uganda through the delivery of promotive,

preventive, curative, palliative, and rehabilitative health services at all

levels.


Job Summary: The Behavior Change Communication (BCC)

Officer will work closely with the MOH team to implement, monitor, and evaluate

BCC interventions. The job role will also involve provision of support for

resource mobilization efforts for BCC interventions, in line with the

department’s mission.


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 


·        
Explore

and document best practices to promote BCC in line with existing standards


·        
Keenly

review and finalize the development of BCC policy for the MOH


·        
Develop

a five year strategic plan to guide BCC implementation at the MOH


·        
Build

networks with various stakeholders – public and private – to promote the BCC

agenda at the policy and implementation levels


·        
Identify

funding opportunities for BCC activities


·        
Develop

fundable research proposals for BCC programs and activities


·        
Develop

operational plans and budgets for BCC initiatives in line with the approved

programs and budget lines


·        
Share

and disseminate experiences arising from BCC interventions in line with the

departmental guidelines


·        
Prepare

and submit monthly and other regular reports of BCC activities in line with the

departmental guidelines


·        
Monitor

and evaluate impact of BCC interventions in various health programs


Qualifications, Skills and

Experience: 


·        
The

ideal candidate should be an American who holds a Degree in public health, mass

communications or related field. A Master’s in public health is desired


·        
Previous

experience in behavior change communications


·        
Computer

literacy i.e. Proficiency in MS Office and computer applications (Word, Excel,

Access, PowerPoint, STATA)


·        
Excellent

analytical and decision making skills


·        
Ability

to work under pressure and meet deadlines


·        
Good

writing skills


·        
Familiarity

with resource mobilization and budgeting


·        
Ability

to work in a team environment, but with self-sufficiency and self-motivation


·        
Excellent

Job Terms and Conditions: Fellows will be provided with housing,

health insurance and a living stipend of $550/month. Additionally, fellows will

receive an award of $1500 upon successful completion of the fellowship year.

Flights to and from the placement site and all other costs associated with GHC

programming are included, including $600 in professional development funds. Ministry

of Health will provide housing in Kampala, an urban center and capital of

Uganda.


Note:

The living stipend and completion award may be paid out in USD or local

currency, as determined by the placement organization.
