is implementing the USAID-funded Literacy Achievement and Retention Activity

(LARA) project.


Job

Summary:
The            Gender Advisor will

mainly ensure that all interventions within the USAID/Literacy Achievement and

Retention Activity project are gender sensitive, promote a safe learning

environment for males and females to improve retention in primary grades and

eliminate SRGBV in and around schools for the benefit of the wellbeing of the

girls and boys.


Key

Duties and Responsibilities: 


·        
Provide support the Safe Learning Specialist in

the USAID/Literacy Achievement and Retention Activity (LARA) project by

advising and implementing effective approaches to reduce School-Related

Gender-Based Violence including corporal punishment, bullying and sexual

violence


·        
Implement School-Related Gender-Based advocacy at

national and district levels focusing on: school related gender based violence

coordination by the national Inter-ministerial secretariat on VACiS, together

with MoESTS, MGLSD and other advocating for the passing of gender sensitive

laws i.e. the family bill and the sexual offences bill


·        
Actively engage in district level gender and child

protection networks, meetings with Founding Bodies and partnerships that

support the LARA project objectives


·        
Provide support Safe Learning Specialist to

coordinate with target district local government to strengthen existing

policies on child protection and prevention of SRGBV


·        
Work closely with the Safe Learning Specialist

provide support to integrate gender into training material for building

capacity of teachers, communities and students


·        
Provide support in the development and editing of

reading material for community facilitators and students to promote gender

equality


·        
Offer capacity building to staff on gender equity

and gender equality


·        
Carry out monitoring visits with Project

Coordinators, CCTs and CDOs to support gender equitable practices that promote

gender equality, transform social norms and prevent SRGBV


·        
Under the guidance of the Safe Learning Specialist

provide technical support to sub-grantees to integrate gender across activities


·        
Provide input into monitoring and evaluation

processes (e.g. baseline, mid-line, end-line and other surveys) to integrate

gender


·        
Provide input into reports produced by Project

Coordinators and draft success stories and lessons learned to document gender

transformation to prevent SRGBV


Qualifications,

Skills and Experience: 


·        
The ideal candidate should preferably hold a Bachelor’s

Degree in Gender, Human Rights, Social work or related fields and post graduate

qualification in development oriented fields


·        
A minimum of five years’ hands-on experience in

designing and managing school related gender-based violence prevention, Safe

learning environment, child rights and life skills interventions in Uganda


·        
Previous experience working in schools and

communities to engage teachers and community level stakeholders


·        
Excellent project writing and documentation skills


·        
Excellent communication and networking skills
