Education Services (AKES) currently operates more than 200+ schools and

advanced educational programmes that provide quality pre-school, primary,

secondary, and higher secondary education services to students in Pakistan,

India, Bangladesh, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Tajikistan.


Job

Summary:
The Head of Education and Operations will mainly be responsible for

effective management of school operations at Aga Khan Education Services,

Uganda (AKES,U) and for overseeing their educational programme performance.

This will involve strategic and operational planning and providing leadership

and guidance to Heads of Schools in curriculum implementation, teacher

development and school improvement, as well in financial and administrative

matters.


Key

Duties and Responsibilities: 


·        
Create annual operating plans that support the

strategic direction set for AKES and correlate with annual operating budgets,

and oversee implementation of the plans;


·        
Provide leadership in rolling out relevant and

holistic education systems that supports nursery/ECD, primary, secondary and

higher secondary educational pathways for both the International and National

School sections;


·        
The job holder will also develop and mentor future

leaders within the organisation.


·        
Uphold a culture that reflects the quality and

values of AKES, encourages and rewards good performance and productivity;


·        
Ensure that operations are managed in compliance

with legal and regulatory requirements;


·        
Collect, analyse and evaluate information that

measures the success of programme efforts and make recommendations for

improvement


·        
Provide the board and senior leaders with regular

reports on progress achieved against strategic and operational goals.


3. Instructional Management:


·        
The incumbent will manage the design, delivery and

quality of programmes and services;


·        
Work closely with school leaders to establish

school quality indicators, and provide guidance to achieve set objectives and

improvement against established quality indicators;


·        
Manage the effective implementation of the student

admissions and tracking processes.


·        
Guide and monitor the delivery of pastoral care

programmes and academic curricula in all schools, ensuring quality and

age-appropriate delivery at all grade-levels, timely completion of syllabus and

meeting of targets in external examinations, and development and implementation

of corrective action plans;


4. Human Resource Management:


·        
Facilitate the recruitment and retention of the

highest quality staff;


·        
Ensure appropriate and timely appraisal and

professional development of teachers and other staff;


·        
Work closely with the HR Department, ensure that

sound policies, processes and documentation are created and maintained, with

the aim of creating a positive working environment for all AKES,U staff, in

line with relevant employment legislation.


·        
Work in liaison with the Finance Department,

direct the development of AKES,U’s annual budgets, in line with agreed regional

and local strategic and operating plans, solid performance data and market

intelligence;


·        
Prudently manage AKES,U’s resources within budget

guidelines.


6. Community Relationships:


·        
Act as the primary spokesperson and representative

for AKES,U and ensure that its mission, programmes and services are consistently

presented in a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders, including

regional educational committees/staff;


·        
Stay abreast with the services and operations of

other education organisations in Uganda;


·        
Build and strengthen positive relationships with

other AKDN agencies, the government, donors, schools of high repute and the

community at large.


Qualifications,

Skills and Experience: 


·        
The ideal candidate should preferably hold a Master’s

degree in Education;


·        
At least ten years of teaching experience, with at

least five years in school leadership and management;


·        
Prior experience with both national and

international curricula will be an advantage;


·        
Working experience in the East African education

environment or other similar African context will be highly desirable;


·        
Broad knowledge and understanding of, and

experience in, curriculum management, design, implementation and evaluation;


·        
Broad understanding of effective frameworks for

school improvement planning and evaluation;


·        
high level of inter-personal skills  and the ability to work in partnership with

heads of school, school staff, students, parents and other stakeholders;


·        
Good financial management skills and experience in

preparing and monitoring budgets;


·        
A positive leadership style to enable staff development

through coaching and support;


·        
Excellent written and verbal communication skills;


·        
Strong administrative, management and

organizational skills;


·        
Cultural awareness, understanding and sensitivity

to manage the challenges and opportunities of the local context.
