About USAID RHITES Project:


Jhpiego implements the Regional Health

Integration to Enhance Services in East Central Uganda (USAID RHITES EC) whose

aim is to increase the availability, accessibility and quality of integrated

health services including HIV and TB prevention, care and treatment; maternal,

neonatal and child health services; family planning; nutrition assessment,

counseling support; malaria prevention and treatment and other primary care

services.


Job Summary:  The Sr Reproductive Health and Family Planning

Advisor will provide programmatic and technical leadership in the design,

implementation and evaluation of reproductive health and family planning

interventions as integral components of the Regional Health Integration to

Enhance Services in East Central Uganda (USAID RHITES EC). The Sr.  Advisor will also work with RHITES EC and

USAID colleagues to develop strategies aimed at the integration of reproductive

health and family planning services as vital components of the continuum of

maternal, newborn, and child health care including malaria-infected mothers and

newborns.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:  


·        
The incumbent

will conceptualize, direct and lead the development, implementation and

evaluation of models, programs and tools to identify effective, feasible and

sustainable approaches to integrate family planning into maternal , neonatal

and child health programs, including approaches to develop the capacity of

health workers at the facility and community levels


·        
Offer

technical support in programming of Family Planning interventions with a focus

on post partum and post abortion periods and use of long-acting and permanent

methods


·        
Actively

promote better understanding of return to fertility, discuss reproductive

intentions for healthy spacing or limiting of future pregnancies, facilitate

increased use of exclusive breastfeeding, LAM, LAM-transition to other modern

FP methods, and family planning for two years after a live birth to improve one

year FP discontinuation rates


·        
Proactively

seek opportunities to integrate family planning into USAID field-supported

maternal and newborn care programs and Associate Awards, link family planning

with immunization and nutrition programs, and develop tools to strengthen

referrals to facilities for long-acting and permanent methods of family

planning


·        
Sharing

knowledge of best practices in FP/RH with RHITES EC partners working in

maternal, newborn, child health and HIV programs at global, regional and

country levels


·        
Provide

programmatic and technical leadership in the design, analysis, and synthesis of

FP interventions at regional and country levels


·        
The incumbent

will also represent RHITES EC in professional venues through meetings,

conferences, and presentations


·        
Ensure

that all new FP-MNCH integration programs are designed to include relevant and

practical monitoring and evaluation systems that reflect appropriate FP-MNCH

indicators and generate useable data for decision-making and program

improvement


·        
Work

closely with the Chief of Party to promote and maintain communications and

relationships with colleagues and partners globally and in countries


·        
Actively

contribute to overall strategy, implementation and evaluation of RHITES EC

activities with a focus on FP


·        
Render

support in the development of work plans, annual reports, and technical papers

and manages these processes to ensure that programs and strategies are

appropriately designed to include FP and effectively implemented


·        
Monitor

the evidence on and state-of-the-art approaches in FP-MNCH integration,

postpartum family planning and post abortion family planning programming and

disseminate findings to USAID and the relevant FP-MNCH communities of practice


·        
Promote

communication and sharing of resources and best practices among colleagues and

partners


·        
Ensure

development and use of appropriate FP program and technical materials

throughout RHITES EC activities


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  


·        
The ideal

candidate for the USAID Project career opportunity should hold an Advanced

degree in public health or related field


·        
A minimum

of seven years’ experience designing, implementing and managing family planning

and reproductive health programs


·        
Physician

or midwife with 7+ years’ clinical FP/RH planning experience preferred


·        
Broad

knowledge and understanding of family planning, reproductive health and

maternal and child health issues


·        
Demonstrated

expertise in research-to-practice including ability to identify and implement

best practices adapted to the realities of varied field settings


·        
Excellent

communication and writing skills including ability to develop reports and

presentations


·        
Excellent

organizational, management and problem-solving skills, effective leadership

ability, cultural sensitivity, flexibility in stressful situations, and the

ability to respond rapidly to the diverse needs of the program


·        
Ability

to travel internationally up to 25%


·        
Fluent

English language skills
