Uganda

Ecumenical Church Loan Fund (ECLOF) Ltd is a fast growing institution, an

affiliate of ECLOF International based in Geneva, Switzerland and a member of

the Association of Microfinance Institutions in Uganda (AMFIU) and is a

Christian based microfinance.


Job

Summary:
The Senior Legal Officer will

play an advisory role to the board and management on legal matters. The job holder

will ensure that all activities of the institution comply with the laws of

Uganda and protect the institution against civil and criminal actions.


Key

Duties and Responsibilities: 


·        
Provide

legal and advisory services:


o   Develop and

maintain legal policies and procedures for ECLOF.


o   Ensure

effective representation of ECLOF in the courts of law and monitor progress of

litigation cases.


o   Interpret

legislation and regulations governing ECLOF and provide legal advice to

management and staff.


o   Train staff

of ECLOF in basic legal procedure.


o   Prepare and

submit legal reports in line with operation plan


·        
Credit

Management:
Ensure proper documentation, and conducting

recovery of stuck and bad loans.


·        
Carry

out Board Assignments;
schedule and coordinate board meetings, act as

minute secretary and communicate board action points to management and staff.


Qualifications,

Skills and Experience: 


·        
The ideal candidate must hold an honors degree in

Law (LLB).


·        
Possession of a Post Graduate diploma in Law.


·        
Applicants that have completed ICSA have an added

advantage.


·        
Commercial operations, management experience and

training


·        
At least three to five years’ experience, in

litigation and financial industry.


·        
Significant experience in micro-finance/MDI laws,

employment laws, legal secretarial duties management and in commercial law.


·        
Leadership and competence in managing and

implementing varied plans and programs.


·        
Demonstrated ability to analyze reports and other

forms of data, with sound judgment and planning skills.


·        
Strong report writing, communication and

networking skills/people skills.


·        
Previous experience and training in managing and

supervising projects, plans and people


·        
Working knowledge and experience in lending,

credit and risk management.


·        
High degree of integrity.


·
