Organisation: National Transport Databank ProjectReports to: Senior StatisticianThe Government of Uganda is implementing the National Transport Databank Project under the Ministry of Works and Transport. The overall objective of the Project is to maintain a good Management Information System or DataBank by determining, collating, processing and storing up-to-date statistics required by the Ministry. Key Duties and Responsibilities:  Collecting, compiling, analyzing and presenting sector statistics.Compiling and preparing quarterly and annual sector statistical reports.Compiling statistical indicators/outputs for dissemination.Validating data collected from surveys and censuses on regular basis.Compile historical time series data for trend analysis.Analyzing and monitoring the implementation of projects and provide feedback to ensure efficient and effective performance of all project activities at all times.Conducting quarterly data collection and analysis from Transport Sector designated agencies and institutions.Compiling of half year and annual Transport Sector performance report.Undertake quarterly Sector monitoring exercises to assess progress against approved monitoring and evaluation plans.Technically support the design and implementation of baselines or other surveys according to approved work plans.Actively participate in production of annual Works and Transport Sector performance reports.Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  The suitable applicants MUST be Ugandans possessing the following:An Honors Bachelors Degree in any of the following specialties: Statistics, Statistics and Economics or Quantitative Economics.Computer literacy skills in MS Office applications, Statistical packages preferably (STATA, SPSS and EPI-DATA) and relational database systems.A minimum of two (2) years of relevant working experience in Government or a reputable organization.Possession of Post graduate Training in Monitoring and Evaluation or any of the above areas will be an added advantage.All candidates should send their applications addressed to, The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Transport, P.O. About this Job:

Medicines and Health Services Delivery Monitoring Unit (MHSDMU) was established in 2009 by H.E the president of the republic of Uganda as a strategic response to existing challenges in the health sector. The backbone of MHSDMU’s success is information gathered through various sources.
In December 2011, Ministry of Health together with WHO and UNICEF with funding from DF1D launched mTrac. It is a system that utilizes mobile phones to enhance the quality and timeliness of the transmission of health data thus strengthening health management and accountability. This is complemented by a strategy to provide a Short-Message Service (SMS) Hotline for Anonymous Health Service Complaints and support for increased community demand for and dialogue around health services.
MHSDMU is a key partner in implementation of the mTrac initiative; its role is to identify and follow up health service delivery related concerns from mTrac. The Unit is thus, seeking to recruit a Statistician with support from WHO under this initiative.

Job Vacancy: Data Statistician – 1 year Contract
Responsibilities:
• Triangulate all complaints generated by anonymous hotline and generate monthly reports.
• Maintain data integrity, confidentiality and efficient operations by following policies and procedures.
• Run analysis of data and generate reports.
• In coordination with the M&E office, collect data and enter it into the data base.
• Verify entered data to ensure accuracy and compliance with set standards.
• Assist in selection of data collection procedures, designing questionnaires, field manuals and data collection tools etc.
• Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Requirement:

Basic skills required for the Statistician job:
• Minimum of a Masters in Statistics or Epidemiology and/or Biostatistics and a first degree in statistics.
• 5 years’ experience in an extremely analytical role OR in the field of Epidemiology and/or monitoring and Evaluation.
• Familiar with the best reporting formats.
• Demonstrate knowledge in analyzing QoL

Competencies required
• Very strong command of statistical packages, such as Stata and SPSS
• Highly proficient use of SQL for extraction and manipulation of data
• Working knowledge of statistics
• Analytical mindset with detail orientation
• Ability to multi-task several concurrent requests
• Ability to quickly pull together data and generate impactful insights
• Ability to create and deliver presentations
