Assistant National Technical ManagerUSAID’s Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) is the world’s premier provider of high quality food security analysis and early warning.
FEWS NET collaborates with international, regional and national partners to provide timely and rigorous early warning and analysis of potential, emerging, and/or evolving food security issues in order to inform decisions and guide response.
Chemonics International Inc., a leading international consulting firm based in Washington, DC, has been contracted by USAID to manage FEWS NET technical and field activities.
Chemonics seeks applications from qualified and experienced Kenyan national professionals for the position of Assistant National Technical Manager (ANTM), who will work closely with the National Technical Manager (NTM) to support all FEWS NET activities in Kenya.
Where appropriate, the ANTM may also support remote-monitoring of selected countries.
In particular, the ANTM will support the following activities:
Efficient, focused food security monitoring, early warning analysis, and response planning.Effective communication of this analysis to partners and decision-makers though high quality reports and briefings.Capacity strengthening and network management.The ANTM will assist the NTM to provide quality control for the deliverables of the project and will help ensure that activities and products are delivered in a timely manner.The ANTM will be required to travel intensely within Kenya, and some international travel in sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, and the United States may be required.
Minimum Qualifications

The National Director of Uganda, reporting to the Program Manager, is responsible for developing the capacity of the Habitat for Humanity national organization and its board of directors to fulfill the purposes of Habitat for Humanity in this country. The National Director will provide servant leadership to the national organization, its volunteers and staff, and its programs and partnerships. This position is based in Kampala, Uganda.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Servant Leadership. Model servant leadership and motivate the other leaders of the national organization to effectively manage its vision and resources, and to skillfully shepherd its stakeholders and homeowner partners. Ensure that Habitat for Humanity International Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) core values permeate the organization at all levels, but especially at the local level with communities and families in need.

Vision and Planning. Develop and guide the vision and long-term goals of the national organization in collaboration with the board and stakeholders, and facilitate the development of annual and strategic plans to achieve both the national and EMEA area visions and purposes, reflecting Habitat principles and EMEA core values. Integrate national vision into EMEA area vision and purposes, allocating on average 20%- time for regional initiatives.

Governance and Board Development. Ensure organizational stability and sustainability by building a wise, skilled, committed, and balanced board of directors, marked by integrity and upholding the Habitat mission. Assist in recruiting qualified members, participate in meetings as an ex officio member, collaborate in policy development, ensure resolutions are implemented, and serve as liaison between the board and the national organization’s staff, affiliates, and partners.

Human Resource Management. Recruit, develop, manage, and evaluate personnel to promote the purposes and achieve the goals of the organization, including staff, advisors, and volunteers. Develop and deploy effective training programmes and equitable human resource systems to invest in and retain people of quality, who are devoted to the mission, as the primary resource of the organization.

Programme Management. Capitalize on opportunities and overcome obstacles to achieve programme scale, stability, and sustainability growth goals in alignment with Habitat principles and EMEA core values. Oversee program planning, management, and evaluation through new affiliate development; innovative partnerships; and construction and appropriate technology quality control systems. Evaluate, document, and report programme results. Ensure effective volunteer recruitment, support and engagement in the programme.

Stewardship and Accountability. In consultation with the board, ensure the fiscal, legal and programmatic integrity, efficiency, and effectiveness of the organization, including oversight of fiscal planning and budgeting, internal controls and external audits, mortgage tracking and statistical documentation, and accurate and timely fiscal and narrative reporting both to the Area Office and other donors. Ensure programme stability and the security of capital by securing governmental registration and approval and/or negotiating binding partnership agreements.

Resource Development and Communications. Ensure the development of resources adequate to achieve short- and long-term strategic plans, in collaboration with the board of directors and Habitat EMEA. Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of annual resource development campaigns including deployment of systems, communications materials, and expansion initiatives. Diversify constituencies creatively, including students and youth, international visitors, and faith groups. Represent the organization and maintain effective relations with all stakeholders, including government officials, donors and sponsors, partners and homeowners, and the public at large.

REQUIREMENTS:

Five or more years of successful international experience including three or more years effective management experience, preferably with Habitat for Humanity or in the non-profit sector and within Africa.In-depth knowledge and understanding of the Ugandan culture, society, local laws and customs.Financial management and accounting skills.Ability to travel up to 20%, including overnight, within the EMEA region.Proficient in English, both written and spoken.Enthusiastic commitment to HFHI mission, purposes, goals, and mission focus.Experience in managing people, budgets and other resources. A track-record of effective and exemplary servant leadership, general management and team-building skills.Ability to analyze and interpret data.Proficient with word-processing, spreadsheet, database, and email software applications.Mediating, counseling and conflict resolution skills.Excellent interpersonal, writing, and public speaking skills.Cross-cultural sensitivity, diplomacy, and adaptability.Alignment with and a commitment to model and articulate Habitat EMEA core values.University degree in a relevant field, such as international development or relations, public administration, management, civil engineering, and/or social sciences.

PREFERRED:

Continuing education or graduate study, preferred but not required, in relevant fields such as community development, non-profit/NGO management, board development, resource development, communications, and in country- or region-specific issues.Community development experience a distinct advantage.Familiarity with construction and appropriate technology preferred.Experience in serving on or the development of non-profit/NGO boards of directors, strongly preferred.Experience in non-profit/NGO resource development, plus a local and/or international network of prospective donors and constituencies, strongly preferred.How to apply:
