Chief Executive Officer ( FULL TIME )
We are retained by the Insurance Institute of Uganda, (IIU) to identify competent Ugandans to fill the posts of Chief Executive Officer and Head of Training based in their headquarters in Kampala. The Institute was established in 1964 and has 60 corporate and 1000 individual members. The Institute is the training arm of the insurance industry in Uganda. Its main objective is to provide and maintain a central organization for the promotion of efficiency, progress, welfare, knowledge and general development among persons engaged or employed in the insurance sector. The Insurance (Amendment) Act 2011 has empowered the Institute to meet its goals and stimulate the industry in general. The 2012 to 2016 strategic plan is already in place.
Our Client is looking for competent persons to lead the implementation of HU’s strategic programs. The posts are tenable for a period of 3 years and carry competitive benefits
Chief Executive Officer
Reporting to the Governing Council, the CEO will be responsible for the overall leadership, development, coordination, promotion and effective management of IIU programs; and for providing technical support to the Council. Specifically the key duties and responsibilities will be to:
• Plan, direct, supervise and control all the Institute’s activities assigned to the Secretariat in meeting the obligation of the Institute as established under the provisions of the constitution and bye-laws of the Insurance Institute of Uganda
• Lead the process of accreditation and quality assurance in higher education
• Build and nurture a highly motivated and disciplined workforce
• Develop strategies to promote, protect and maintain the credibility and image of IIU
• Ensure compliance with the constitutional, public financial and non financial statutory requirements
• Develop, recommend and implement policies, plans, budgets and management information and control systems designed to achieve the Institute’s objectives and priorities as specified by the Governing Council in its annual plans
• Maintain high level contacts at policy and Chief Executive Level with national, regional and international public and private organizations to ensure effective achievement of the objectives of the institute
• Co-ordinate the membership of the Institute, promote good public relations and networking with the organizations whose activities interface with those of the Institute
• Mobilize resources for funding of the Institute’s activities in consultation with the Governing Council and as provided for by the constitution and bye-laws of the Institute
• Organize and prepare for General meetings, Council meetings, seminars and workshops and follow up the implementation of decisions and resolutions
Job requirements
• Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability and confidence to interact freely with Government officials at policy level and executives of member organizations and network with other organizations whose activities interface with those of the institute
• Sound knowledge of the insurance subsector and be flexible in keeping up to date with international developments in insurance policy and practice
• Excellent knowledge of higher education landscape
• Proven knowledge of quality assurance initiatives and practice of higher education in the East African region
• Proven track record in research and management
• Good leadership and effective team management skills
