Doctor International Health and Tropical Medicine – Gulu – Voluntary Service Overseas
General objectives:
Build the capacity of maternity and labour wards at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital and provide training, supervision and support to associated Health Centres;
Working alongside colleague doctors, midwives, nurses and CHW in labour ward and in health centre’s, providing on the job training and advise
Needs assessments in targeted health facilities (HF) to identify capacity support needs in areas of maternal and neonatal care
Support planning and roll out of QI initiatives for the labour and neonatology unit.
Support monitoring and evaluation related to maternal and neonatology services.
Trainings of Trainers for District trainers and clinical leads in essential and emergency maternal obstetrics care
Conduct support supervision and mentoring visits with District Health Office (DHO) to targeted HFs, providing advice and mentoring to both DHO and HWs in areas of expertise.
Trainings, mentoring and support supervision for Village Health Team
Development/adaptation of manuals and protocols (SOP) to strengthen management and functioning of the maternity and labour ward
Participate in VSO health project planning and review meetings
Submit monthly plans and reports to VSO and partner, including documenting best practices, lessons learnt, and cases studies
This job is part of a wider Health programme targeting Gulu, Lira and Oyam Districts and there will be lots of opportunity to work together with other VSO health professionals in paediatrics, nutrition and obstetrics & gynaecology. Gulu Referal Hospital, Uganda
