The Aga Khan

University (AKU) is a private, not-for-profit, international University first

established in 1983, with II campuses and teaching sites in 8 countries

including Uganda.


Job

Summary:
 The Foundation Chair in

Midwifery will lead the AKU School of Nursing & Midwifery education,

research & practice developments in Uganda and impact graduate outcomes for

both private and public sector employment. The incumbent will build the

teaching and research capacity of local faculty and prepare graduates for a

broad range of employment contexts including rural and remote regions and the

recently announced Aga Khan University Hospital which will be built in Uganda.  Applicants interested in the position should

have the ability and intent to pursue a research program of relevance to their

teaching practice and area of clinical specialty. S/he will be expected to

conduct research, mentor and support teaching faculty and achieve scholarly

publication in areas pertaining to midwifery education and practice.


Qualifications,

Skills and Experience: 


·        
The applicant must hold a Ph. D. focussed on midwifery

education or practice. Post graduate qualification in education. The successful

applicant must be qualified to teach in all levels of theory and clinical

midwifery courses and lead midwifery course developments and programme revision

in this field of practice.


·        
At least five years current midwifery experience


·        
Advanced competency in specialized field of

midwifery education and practice


·        
Possess current registration or eligibility for

registration with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council


·        
Current teaching experience in the midwifery and

related subjects


·        
Excellent track record of research and

publications (minimum 20 peer-reviewed publications


·        
Proven experience in midwifery curriculum and

course development


·        
Demonstrated ability to mentor junior faculty and

building teaching & research capacity


·        
Excellent interpersonal/communication skills


·        
Competent user of word processing software


·        
Sound organizational skills


·        
Excellent collaborative capacity and interpersonal

skills
