value chains, for improved income and food security. SNV develops solutions in

climate smart agriculture to enhance adaptive capacity and mitigation potential

conservation, and poverty alleviation. Promoting sustainable economic

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Planning: ensure the planning of the work

    schedules in consideration of logistics constraints, community constraints

    and participation of female farmers in the field activities.

  • Mobilisation: effective mobilisation of farmers

    and relevant stakeholders to participate in planned activities, ensuring

    that farmers and stakeholders are consulted in the planning.

  • Increasing, surplus production: work

    closely with ten farmers groups or 10 schools, establish demonstration

    gardens and facilitate season-long learning, skills transfer and

    replication by about 350 farmers. Demonstrated technology should focus on

    productivity enhancement to attain surplus harvests.

  • Reducing post-harvest losses: Carry

    out post-harvest trainings for the 350 farmers and demonstrate proper

    post-harvest handling technologies motivating farmers to adopt these

    technologies and hence reduce their post-harvest losses.

  • Marketing linkages: Mentor and train farmers in collective

    marketing and support the ten farmers groups to profile themselves around

    the key commodities produced for the market. The profile should also

    include their demand for farm inputs, extension, financial services and

    market intelligence.

  • Financial Services: Offer technical support to ten

    farmers groups to establish village savings and loans associations (VSLA).

    This includes mobilization, training the groups on VSLA methodology, and

    supporting the VSLAs to manage their savings and lending.

  • Reporting:

    • Prepare and submit weekly reports to

      line manager on the progress towards planned activities, results achieved

      and remedial actions required for the subsequent period.

    • Provide monthly updates to buyers

      and relevant sub-county authorities where the project is implemented.

  • Collaboration: collaborate and work well with

    relevant government entities, development partners and community

    structures during the implementation of this project.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate should preferably hold a University

    degree in agriculture extension, agronomy or agriculture economics.

    However, a relevant diploma with extensive experience will be considered.

  • A minimum of three years’ experience

    implementing community-based agriculture projects focused on improving

    production and marketing linkages for smallholders.

  • Working knowledge of local context including

    working experience in Kasese, Kamwenge or Kabarole as well as good command

    of the local languages used in these communities.

  • Excellent planning and reporting skills and

    ability to coordinate work plans and reports with the project team,

    farmers groups, traders and other actors in agriculture value chains.

  • Previous experience is community mobilization

    and community dialogue coupled with , good communication skills both

    verbal and written.

  • Prior experience with village savings and

    loans associations or other forms of community based financial mechanisms

    and collective marketing.

  • Ability to ride motorcycle with clean riders

    permit and willingness to spend most of the time, in the field working

    with farmers.

  • Proficient in computer applications

    especially MS word, excel and PowerPoint.

  • The candidate should have relevant skills and

    a proven track record.
