The
Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) was established by an Act of Parliament;
The Uganda National Authority Act, No. 15 of 2006. UNRA became operational on
1st July 2008. The mandate of UNRA is to
develop and maintain the national roads network, advise Government on general
roads policy and contribute to addressing of transport concerns, among others.
Job Summary: The Landscape Specialist will be charged with landscape
designs for road and
bridge
projects including planting of roadside trees, flowers, grass; pedestrian ways,
railing and lighting. The Landscape Specialist will also be responsible for ensuring
the road and bridges designs are not only functional but also beautiful and
harmonious with the natural environment. This will also include the planning
for the locations of buildings, walkways, flowers, shrubs, and trees within
designed road and bridges corridors.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, review and update the Authority’s
landscape manual/ landscape design policy in line with UNRA guidelines; - Plan and conduct preliminary studies of road
and bridge sites for landscape requirements in line with UNRA standards; - The jobholder will plan and implement the
beautification program in regard to planting trees/ flowers/ grass along
all acquired Right of Way in line with the landscape policy and UNRA
guidelines; - Prepare landscape designs for all UNRA
facilities including UNRA headquarters, stations offices, UNRA Parking
lots, weighbridges and ferry landing sites in line with UNRA guidelines; - Responsible for the development and contribution
to the landscape design details to overall road and bridge design
processes in line with UNRA standards and international best practice; - Develop and prepare a data base of approved
materials for use in landscape designs. - Perform any other duties as assigned by the Head
Design.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the UNRA Landscape
Specialist job vacancy should hold an Honors Degree in Architecture,
Landscape Design or any other related field; - Possession of a Master’s Degree in a related field and other
Post Graduate qualifications in Architecture, Landscape Design or other
relevant field will be an added advantage; - Professional registration with the Architects
Registration Board or its equivalent in the Commonwealth is an added
advantage; - At least five years’ experience in landscape
architecture. - High degree of integrity;
- Proven track record of outstanding
performance; - Computer literacy skills
- Excellent interpersonal, particularly
staff/management relation skills - Excellent oral and written communication
skills; - Ability to manage/supervise multi skilled
teams and deliver accurate results in a timely manner and in an
environment with multiple and challenging tasks.
