The Makerere

University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) is a non-profit HIV research program

that was established in 2002 as a result of a memorandum of understanding

between Makerere University and The Henry M. Jackson foundation for Advancement

of Military Medicine Inc. of USA (HJF). The primary purpose of MUWRP is to

develop, evaluate and provide interventions to mitigate disease threats of

public health importance to Uganda. Activities include; vaccine development and

building of vaccine testing capability in Uganda, conducting of epidemiological

and basic research and provision of HIV Treatment, care and support in Kayunga,

Mukono and Buvuma Districts.


Job

Summary:
The Laboratory Assistant will support the Project in collecting and

testing for blood samples for various IE studies.


Key

Duties and Responsibilities: 


·        
Conducting field laboratory investigations

including; hepatitis B, syphilis and HIV following the aseptic technique.


·        
Responsible for the maintenance and safety of

study materials and equipment


·        
Understand, adhere and promote to MUWRP-PEPFAR

compliance standards as they appear in the HR policy manual, Code of Conduct,

and Conflict of Interest Policy.


·        
Perform any other responsibilities as assigned by

the field supervisor, study coordinator or principal investigator.


Qualifications,

Skills and Experience: 


·        
The applicant should be a holder of a certificate

in medical laboratory and technology.


·        
Prior experience working in field research

program.


·        
Good computer skills and experience using word,

excel, internet and power point.


·        
Additional training in good laboratory practice

would of an added advantage.


·        
Previous experience working with HIV research

institution


·        
Should be hard working and a team player
