The
Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) was established by an Act of Parliament;
The Uganda National Authority Act, No. 15 of 2006. UNRA became operational on
1st July 2008. The mandate of UNRA is to
develop and maintain the national roads network, advise Government on general
roads policy and contribute to addressing of transport concerns, among others.
Job Summary: The Maintenance Design Engineer will actively participate
in the design of road and bridge maintenance interventions. The Engineer will
also participate in project level investigation/condition assessment and
collection of other relevant data to assist in evaluation of trends and
patterns in pavement condition. In addition, the incumbent will participate in
the design and quality assurance of pavement works and periodic monitoring of
the performance of the pavement in accordance with the Road Maintenance
Management Manual.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Actively participate in developing innovative
road maintenance designs in line with departmental guidelines and targets; - Actively participate in the design and
quality assurance of road maintenance works in line with departmental
standards and guidelines; - Participate in periodic monitoring of the
performance of the road maintenance works; - The job holder will be tasked with the
development of a risk matrix and put in place risk mitigation measures on
roads maintenance designs; - Regularly respond to audit reports and
implement agreed recommendations within specified time frames; - Take part in the planning, budgeting and reporting
in line with departmental guidelines and targets. - Perform any other duties as assigned by the Manager
Maintenance Design.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the UNRA Maintenance Design
Engineer job vacancy should hold an Honors Degree in Civil Engineering or
any other related field; - Possession of a Master’s Degree in Civil
Engineering or related field is an added advantage; - Professional registration with the ERB or
relevant Association of professional engineers in the commonwealth
countries is an added advantage; - At least three years’ experience in
maintenance operations. - Impeccable level of integrity;
- Proven track record of outstanding
performance; - Computer literacy skills
- Excellent interpersonal, particularly
staff/management relation skills - Excellent oral and written communication
skills
