Programme Officer


We have an exciting career opportunity for a Programme Officer to oversee, supervise and monitor the mothers to mothers (m2m) care and support programme activities in various health facilities located in the East Central region of Uganda under the OHTA Project ( (Optimizing HIV Treatment Access Among Pregnant Women in East Central Uganda). This position is based in Jinja and reports to the Senior Programme Manager.


Key Performance Areas:



  • Work collaboratively to develop annual, quarterly and monthly work plans




  • Supervise and ensure effective programme implementation at approximately 15 health facilities across the region




  • Manage the recruitment, training and orientation of Site Coordinators and Mentor Mothers at facility and community levels




  • Conduct regular site supervisory, coaching and on-job mentorship visits to health facilities




  • Draft and submit weekly monitoring plans and reports




  • Ensure routine collection, reporting and analysis of data, and data utilization to promote programme quality




  • Work collaboratively to develop programme activity budgets and monitor and report expenditure




  • Take lead in coordination of community-facility linkages and referrals between relevant stakeholders and potential donors




  • Conduct regular meetings and performance management processes with Site Staff



Qualifications and experience



  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Medicine, Public Health, Nursing Sciences or a related field




  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in health, community work and PMTCT service delivery




  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in mid-level programme management



Competencies required



  • Good working knowledge of relevant PMTCT protocols and policies in Uganda




  • Strong interpersonal, communication and team building skills




  • Dynamism, independence and creativity




  • Excellent time management, reporting and writing skills




  • Experience with training and M & E essentials




  • Passion for m2m’s vision and mission




  • Computer literacy (MS Office, Outlook and Internet)




  • Fluency in English and Luganda/Lusoga required
